I have a 2008 Prius with three hundred thousand miles on it and today while I was driving after I put my seatbelt on and the passenger seat belt then it still continues to beep like I am in Reverse even though I'm not in reverse and it continues to beep all the time now while I'm driving. WHen I slow to a stop that's the only time it stops beeping. I drive a lot even after 30 minutes this is starting to drive me insane and I don't know where to start seat sensor computer failure bad wire if anyone has any idea I love to hear about it
That's where I started to look there's nothing in the seat there was bags of food and I also have a null seat belt clip put in there but even when that was in or out it still beeps and the warning light that goes along with the seat belt beep is not illuminated either
My working theory is the car still thinks it's in Reverse so I'm trying to turn off the reverse beep I have not had any luck yet
So my working theory didn't work I was able to turn off the reverse beep but yet my car still beeps in drive while I'm moving
I don't even specifically know where the door sensors are but I will check everything usually when the there is a door ajar, there is a light on, on the dash and the dome light goes on
Yeah if you've got a blanket or similar protecting the hatch, maybe preventing the latch from fully engaging? I drove from North Coquitlam to North Vancouver with a caribiner pushed into the hatch latch, and the hatched tied down, transporting some shelving pieces that stuck out. Thought I was being clever, that the car would think the hatch was closed. Not! It beeped all the way to the second Narrows Bridge, which is when I realized I'd forgotten to bring along the all-important bag of screws. So all the way back to N. Coq., and then once again to the bridge and over to North Van. With the blessed beep for every meter of it....
There usually easy to spot on each door. They’ll have a little tab that will compress. See if everything is working. The hatch can be a bit fiddly and usually will corrode out over time. Good luck and keep us posted .
I just checked all the doors and hatch nothing I could see or feel, and the reverse beep I just turned off is beeping again
If it is true that it's warning rather than annoying so what is it warning me about? Does anyone have any ideas about what it may be rather than comments about my state of mind?
From the Owner’s Manual (PDF), starting on page 426, the most serious possibility is a failure of the brake system, or if the car detects that the parking brake isn’t released. In these cases, there would usually be a red BRAKE warning light, too, but this could have failed. In general, anything that causes a continuous beeping should also have an indicator or warning light or message. Many of these lights should come on briefly when you start the car, and then turn off, and it would be a good idea to check each one. In the Owner’s Manual, see the chart on page 149 and the illustration of the instrument cluster on page 146.
This may sound schoolmarmy, but is the OP reporting a continuous beep, or a continual one? Dire warnings from the brake system sound a continuous one. I think most other stuff like the seat belt or reverse warnings sound a continual one.
Is the passenger seat belt light on the passengers side dashboard blinking? That’s a beep beep beep. Contuniuous beep is uh oh.
Thank you all for your positive and constructive comments. The beeping was not from a seat belt or anything because there was no corresponding lights. It was like I was in reverse when I was in drive it was the exact same beep. So against my better judgment after a whole day and night of beeping I took it to a Toyota dealership. They could not replicate the beep, I even drove it with the tech, did not beep once unless the seat belt light was on. It hasn't made a sound since. They said they didn't do anything. At this point I was just glad it stopped. Now I'm on to another problem that is keeping my brake system lights on that is a very big concern. I replaced the rear wheel bearing, because of a speed sensor failure code. The lights have not turned off. I have tested the part it is not faulty. I have a new wire, which is what Toyota, an independent shop, and what my mechanic and I think should be the next step. Although I'm not too confident in the possible outcome. Thank you again everyone who offer ideas and advice
