The anticipation, the unknown..

Actually the Prime and 4th generation Prius were both revealed in 2016, the Prius in January and the Prime in November. It’s not clear to me that 2019 will be the year for Prime’s refresh. There is increasing pressure from other auto manufacturers with plug in vehicles that will be releasing in the near future and Toyota may want to stay ahead of them.

The 4th generation has several changes beside the calming of its exterior: removal of the white accents on dashboard and steering wheel, extension on visor, addition of usb outlets in rear, repositioning of heated seat switch, new colors. I haven’t seen the new red, but the blue looks more appealing to me than the “blue magnetism” of the Prime. I hope that it becomes an option for the Prime, but I doubt it.

 

The Prime came out in November 2016, but was a 2017 model year. The 2016 Prius arriving in January of that year isn't the norm.

I know how you feel. My problem is do I wait for 2020 and hope for TSS 2.0 and Android Auto or scratch the itch right after the 2019's go on sale. I just keep telling myself that all of my research proves that this car happens to fit my particular needs perfectly except for those two things.

If you are serious about a Leaf, keep in mind that an improved battery will be available in 2019 increasing range from 150 miles to 200. And of course you would need 240V charging in your garage if you wanted it to charge overnight.

 

I had great debate on which EV - ish vehicle to go with. After I considered the overall purpose for the car (specific to my needs, a good daily driver to keep for 7-10 years) the Prius Prime is the best bet.

 

Me too, but that's because I go on road trips. Already had my Prime in 10 states.

 

we have my wife's hycam for travel. i can get by with a hundred mile ev, but no one makes one as big as prius.
i'm mighty tempted by the 7 large off at dch milford toyota, since the mass $1,500. tax credit apparently runs out this year.

 

just looked it up, mass is switching to bev and fool cell only. very short sighted

 

I daily drive a smart Electric Drive with a whopping 55-75 real miles range. It works for my daily commute and charges full overnight (finishes charging about half hour before I need to leave for work) but would be nice to have a higher range EV as this one can’t make it to the dealership without 1 or 2 charging stops (at about 6 hrs each on level 2).

If going the route of the leaf, I’d wait and go for the 200 mile one. 50 miles doesn’t seam like much, but it can be the difference of climate control or not.
