Cleaning a MAF will not do a thing for rich codes, they do not work that way, it would make the condition WORSE if it did.

I did not say this is for sure the reason for Paul's P0172, just that it's been a quick and dirty "fix" for me the last 4 or 5 times my daughter's '07 has coded P0172 for the past 1/2 dozen years. I use quick and dirty "fix" to imply no diagnostics are performed aside from Techstream confirmation that the code goes away and fuel trims return to normal post maf/tb cleaning. This on a car which passes NYS emissions yearly without issue, despite some knucklehead (me) using maf/tb cleaning to beat back P0172.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you here, but are you saying a dirty maf won't or can't cause P0172 and that cleaning a maf cannot remedy P0172?

Took the valve I had replaced recently as it was easy to get to. Here is what I learned, and what I found inside. Like Patrick said putting voltage to the motor wires (pink and Black on the valve side and purple and yellow at the connector. I used 18volts because it was handy. You can see the results of the test on the paper. There are only 5 wires however less than I expected.

The motor didn’t turn at first so I opened the valve up making it easy to see what goes where and why. After removing the worm gears I could spin the motor with my finger so I applied voltage again and everything works as it should.there does seem to be some grit ?? Which I cannot explain so I’ll have to investigate a bit more and clean it up before I trust it.
    Thanks for the help IMG_6966.jpg IMG_6968.jpg IMG_6957.jpg IMG_6961.jpg IMG_6959.jpg IMG_6965.jpg

This valve made it 397,000 miles before engine failure you can see the radiator flush at 200,000 was not enough to keep things pristine.

Hey Paul sorry to bump this older topic but did you ever get the P1122 code figured out? I’m dealing with a similar issue after replacing my CCV

Patrick and I decided it was a code thrown because of the P0606 ECU processor

Hi Paul, hope you're still around after a year.

I just replaced the Coolant Control Valve but am still getting the P1121 & P1122 DTC. Do you remember if you had to replace the ECM to cure this ?

I haven't yet done a complete drive cycle to try to clear codes yet, still trying to research how many miles, starts, stops, speed, etc I need to do. Hopefully that will clear the codes, I need to get this car smogged. Oddly enough the CEL (MIL) isn't lit on the dash.
