I just had set put on 2016 eco at 40k miles. My gas mileage took a big hit. The tread design seems to be different, more like the Premiere. All the markings on outside of tire are just like they use to be. Has anyone else noticed a tread design??
Can you post a picture of the tread? Maybe angle a front wheel out for best view. From TireRack: Just a thought: they're not by chance Energy Saver, without the A/S suffix.
Here is what I got, really displeased with tires, had them on about a month now. They ride good but gas mileage is down to 49mpg-50 from about 60mpg
My 2016 is down 10 mpg, I blame it on the temperature drop. Excess heater usage and rolling resistance increases with temperature drops.
I've got a service recall on car about wiring harness, calling in the morning. Me and service manager going to have a talk. I did a search, didn't find anything about tread change. Something is not right with tires or they have changed tread design
Looking on Tire Rack, at the specs, selected sizes are still made in Germany, but most sizes are made in the US or Canada. Tire Rack gets your size from Canada. I can't see the DOT code in the pictures, but here is a link to finding the tire plant that manufactured yours. Tire DOT Plant Codes - Sorted by Country - Tire Safety Group
What is the date code on the tires? It could be you didn't get new tires. Use this link to locate and decipher the marking on your tires: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11&
I didn't see any of Michelin tread designs that look like these. They also have 51 lb max air pressure on tires. I don't know if I'll be able to do anything about it, plainly reads on tires Michelin Energy Saver A/S. I noticed the tread design right away but not being the one that drives the car daily just didn't pay much attention until recently. The car does not roll good, like its in lower gear, it does not coast good. There was also an alignment done on car when tires were replaced. One of my old tires was wearing on the outside so had alignment done. We'll talk to service manager about it before long. He seem like a good guy to deal with, we'll see.
Huh, @bisco's look the same, and he's had them for some time now. TireRack's out of date?? Maybe an email to Michelin would shed some light. I've asked them a few questions, gotten responses, not always that enlightening, but doesn't hurt to ask. Some Tirerack will show a tire, and note there's two versions, with different tread, saying something like "VW version tread", something like that.
Now that you know how to post pics, you’re on it. Pics are worth a thousand words, so maybe this isn’t so good for your words per post count.
@Lee Jay claims his car was hit 20-30% loss overnight when he switched to Michelin Energy Saver A/S from Dunlop OEM on his Prime. Prius Prime - OE Tire life and other recommended tires | PriusChat I was considering them for my next summer set, but I may have to take it off from the short list now.
