    >80% of tesla braking is regenerative, unless you deliberately set re-gen on low.

The open ones reduce the size of the front end as well as feeding brake ducts. By feeding the air to the wheel wells they send the air out at an angle as opposed to sending it out around a bigger more solid front end. Even the 2015 Ford f-150 uses them for that according to the internet <grin>.

And yet the 'openings' on my Camry are solid inserts, which I bet is the same on the Rav4.

Fake "fog light intakes" are everywhere. I think it is "design by focus group". Company wants car to look "sporty". Focus group says those intakes make it look more sporty. Therefore we have fake intakes everywhere.

Fuelly shows the 2018 RAV4 Hybrid at 31.6 mpg. If the 2019 version gets 39, that is a 23% improvement. Not too shabby. Direct injection vs port injection yields 23% improvement. Looking at 2018 Camry Hybrid LE vs 2017 Camry Hybrid LE: 22% improvement. Assuming Toyota has solved the reliability and high particle emissions problems with their dual injector design, we need direct injection in the Prius.

Prius gen3 vs. gen4 improved without direct injection.

Per Toyota PR, the 2.5 and 2.0 D-4S in hybrid is 41% efficient, where Prius 1.8 port injected engine is 40% efficient.

    About 10% though.

All 22-23% improvement isn’t due to the D4S system. Thermal efficiency and improvements to the inverter and electric motor means more engine power is making it to the wheels

Build your Rav4 is up on the Toyota website. You can't build the Rav4 Hybrid but you can build a conventional Rav and then add $800 to get the hybrid price. Looks like the beginning price for the Hybrid with delivery charge is $28,745. The top of the line Limited with advanced tech and other major options will be almost $40,000 msrp.

Be sure to choose AWD for the ICE model then.
It is about $2200 difference between the hybrid and FWD Rav4.

Yes, my figures reflect choosing AWD.

Note LE vs LE HV, steel vs aluminum wheels, manual vs dual auto climate, added rear seat vents and active grille shutters. These could be valued at $600-800.

So the base HV models are better value? I believe active grille shutters are added to the Limited and Trail has models but still have an $800 difference (well until we see the full pricing of the HV models)

Yeah active grill shutters need not be exclusive to hybrids.

Looks like HV is much better value added choices for all the trims. Can't wait to see them in show room. I also need to see reports from early adopters on real life mpg.

It might be different with the new gen but it's challenging to lift-off and maintain EV in the current Rav4 like you can in the Prius. Not sure if it's because of how the system maintains the rear drive charge or just the overall weight. I'd be surprised if people in the real world are approaching 40mpg though.

I would want to wait at least a year to see seasonal performance figures and owner's opinions in the real world. Unfortunately, I read too many car forums (4 brands, 13 in all) and see too many postings of delivery, supply, initial quality, lack of training for repair, etc stories. Even from brands that had good reputations. I've waited weeks for a part for a first year car before...too many times.

Not to mention the upstart disrupter that I was 4 hours from ordering from a week ago. Money transferred, car configured, SWMBO approval granted, delivery checklist acquired, and then I went back and re read recent local owner experiences. I was enter credit card number away from the deal. Let someone else be the beta tester.

Lots of the cars whose specs seem attractive when reading reviews are two years away from available to me (non-carb state, not first on the list) or from sellers 50 miles away.

Where did you find that info?
Showed up on non-hybrids first. Toyota, like most things, was slow to adopt.

I see differences in the 2018 LE vs LE HV but I haven't found specific specs for the 2019 Rav4 Hybrid since you can't build a hybrid on the Toyota Site and the 2019 brochure doesn't seem to be available yet. Where do you see this?
