Finished the right side tail light retrofit.



For those interested, this is an exact fit for 2016 and prior so no mods are necessary, however you do need to replace the wiring hardness as well as purchase the parking light LED and the brake LED module, which is no longer integrated into the light assembly. Expensive, I know, but if you gotta have it, here are the part numbers and my cost from Tustin Toyota:

What LEDs did you use for the headlights?

 

Installed my screwdriver shift knob from japan and got bored so I cut up a crown royal bag to make a shift boot.

Supernova V.4 LED Headlights, H11 / H16 Bulbs

These use the latest Cree chips, so they're more expensive than the typical eBay or Amazon varieties. IMO, both color/temperature and brightness is comparable to a 50W HID, and there's no yellow margins, and it has crisp cut-off, and of course instant on-off. High beams are next, but they're back-ordered right now.

 

I'm getting tired of my HIDs... I've had a bad batch the last few bulbs. My first bulb lasted me 5 years (moved from my last car) and 100k miles. This ballast and bulb set didn't even make 10k miles... LEDS run hotter than factory bulbs?

 

I love this! Did you have to remove the position indicator housing?

 

Not if they're working properly. With incadesent bulbs, including the OEM H11 halogens, all the heat comes out the front, i.e. the filament, in the form of IR. With LEDs, all the heat comes out of the back of the LED chip. The heat sink transfers this heat to the back of the module, where a small fan dissipates it to the ambient air. If that fan fails, the LED will fail soon, so you do have to keep it clean, and cover it if you're going to wash the engine bay.

 

Winter tires. 4 new 175/70R14 General Altimax Arctic on a set of 14" rims I had left over from another car. They fit great and ride well. Hoping the traction is everything claimed.

Question for you: Being those tires are an inch shorter, did you have to adjust the computer to account for the difference?

 

It's not that much smaller. Stock is 24" diameter, these are 23.6". Original is 842 revs per mile, new is 853. It doesn't get much closer without actually matching. A 185 would have been closer to diameter, but the width would have gone up a lot.

Interesting. Did you buy this locally in Hawaii? I don't suppose you (or anyone) can translate at least the brand name so I can see if it's available elsewhere. Or is this an actual Toyota accessory? And more importantly - how well does it work?

 

I got this in japan. This is universal toyota accessory that you can buy at any car place up there (super autobacs). The brand name is yac same as the japan cup holders or accessories for our car. It actually works pretty well my car doesn’t smell like a kitchen anymore so far.

Installed the valenti super slim drl also led under the head lights that’s I got from japan. Decided not to sell the drl and just throw it on. The led under the head lights I got a 8 click switch the changes the brightness of the led.

 

I keep my tire pressures at 40psi for better economy. I think many do. I drive on rubber that is more grippy in both dry and wet conditions, and has a more aggressive thread pattern than the OEMs, so safety is not an issue. However, just about every time I take her to the dealer for an oil & filter change, even though I specifically tell the SM not to do it, the grease monkey dude deflates my tires down to 30psi. To combat this oil conglomerate conspiracy, I found these "child-proof" caps on Amazon. Let's see if my attempt at reverse child psychology bears any fruit. I wish instead of TRD, it said "DON'T ******* touch this!", but then again, if the grease monkey dude could read, he would have read the service request. which clearly says not to mess with the tire pressures. Ayyyayyay!

 

That's one way to do it I suppose. But should you lose traction in a wet weather situation, this post is not going to help you in any lawsuit a money hungry attorney is going to try get for your injuries and/or loss of property.
