Anyone tried Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady tires?

Recently installed a set of these on our 2010. Initial impressions are very favorable, and MUCH quieter than the Continental PureContacts that lasted about 30k. After the first 1k miles on them, traction seems good on wet and dry roads, and based on the recent 3" of snow, very good there too. Mileage seems comparable or better against the Contis, but given the grip and tread patter, expect it not to be as high as the OEs.

I think I may like these better than the Michelin Premiers I put on our Prius V (wagon).

 

I have had them on my 2013 since 18,000 miles. Now have 55,000 miles with plenty of tread depth. Good in snow and rain. Comfortable and long lasting tire, recommended.

But relatively new? New adopters tend to be enthusiastic. Interesting tire though.

 

Not the brand mentioned, but a Goodyear brand. My last four tire changes, two both in my 2011 and 2008, were for the Goodyear Assurance Comfortred brand. I drive about 35K a year so I get a little over two years out of a set. I also drive mostly highway speed on hot and dry roads with the occasional bit of snow in the winter and an inch or so of standing water during summer thunderstorms. These tires are quiet and dependable and I would be hard pressed to try anything else. I run them at 38 psi front/36 psi rear and get consistent mpg between 48-52.

 

I am not too confident in the TireRack reviews. It's just based on amateur customer opinions.

The GoodYear is rated high, but only 44 reviews by customers, and "customers" can say anything. And can the results and reviews be "padded", like they are on so many Amazon product reviews? You hope they are honest, but....

I much prefer reading test results by professional drivers, under various conditions, and a variety of tests. (Not just mom & pop going to the grocery store.) Motor Trend, Car & Driver, etc. Even Consumer Reports.

Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady (Grand Touring All-Season 225/50R17 94V)

• What We Liked: Acceptable comfort on the road, previous winter testing shows it's strong in the snow.
• What We'd Improve: It could be a little more refined, and it needs more wet traction to be competitive in this group.
• Conclusion: Likely to satisfy most drivers, but gets lost in a tough crowd.

In the regular "Touring" list, the Michelin Defender rates high. Do many people put "Grand Touring" tires on a Prius?

 

Well, I tend to weigh more on consumer reviews than professional ones. Yeah, pro test are more controlled and maybe even scientific, but so what, I never drive a car 80mph on wet test circuit. Granted, consumer reviews tend to be biased in one way or another, but enough voice raised either bad or good, have more merit for further inquiry for fellow consumer IMO. That said, choice of tire is often so subjective, no review seems to give enough information on what I want to know, or in opposite, gives me too much contradictory information that make decision even more difficult.

 

Yep. Most people love Michelin. But my Premiers are the loudest & noisest tires I have ever owned. It's all subjective.

 

One thing of note: the topic tires are all-weather, have the snowflake/mountain symbol. Good one tire solution for someone not wanting to deal with separate snow tires.

 

Well, just had quite a winter storm come through our area, and I have to say the WeatherReady tires do seem to live up to the "all weather" vs "all season" rating they have. Comparing a same day drive between my car with the Michelin Premiers and wife's with the WeatherReady, it was very lopsided on starting traction, stopping traction, turning, ice, and snow. They are very close to dedicated winter tires for most conditions. Haven't had a chance to try in really deep snow yet- but the tread isn't nearly as aggressive as true winter tires we had in years past. If the Goodyears hold up, I'll likely switch our Prius V over when due. We've put about 2k miles on them, and very pleased.

 

Good to hear there is alternative to expensive Nokian WGR and Michelin CrossClimate. Goodyear is having fantastic deals on tires now, WeatherReady which sells for $129 MSRP is now down to $51/tire after online discount and rebate. If I didn't buy new Michelin Xice, just last month, I would have jumped on it. So, do you have any idea how much of mpg hit WeatherReady cause compared to LRR tires?

 

Kal Tire also has "Nordman", which I strongly suspect is just rebadged Nokian, the tread pattern looks real familiar. Here's I've just plugged in a 3rd Gen Prius with 15" rims, and spec'd "all-weather" tires:

Our daughter's using those Nordman on her Pilot, year 'round.

 

Nokian has Nordman brand tires, but I think they are all studded (or studdable) winter tires.

I'm still interested in the answer to this question - SPECIFICALLY for Goodyear WeatherReady tires (for any version of the Prius or Rav4 hybrid): How did they affect your mpg? Do you like them?

Sorry for the late follow up on mileage impact- for our 2010, there was no reduction from the prior Continental PureContacts that were on the car. In fact, it's up a bit, but that could also be due to finally getting the rear alignment within spec as well.

Currently at 5k on the Goodyears, and still confident enough to put them on the Prius v (wagon) before the next winter when the Michelin Premieres are nearing end of life.

 

Are you keeping Goodyear WeatherReady year around? It is rated to be severe snow tire with three peaks and snowflake mark, but they are all-weather tire designed to be worn year around, aren't they?

 

Anyone got comparisons to the Michelin Cross-Climate tires?
