HyCam engine runs to make waste heat?

A while back I took mine in to my local dealer thinking they could not mess up an inspection and tire rotation.

They wrote that they set all tires to 32 psi. Fortunately they were set to a more reasonable 39. The service writer asked why they did not inspect the battery. He said the Prius is different. At that point the Prius had a 12 volt battery under the hood like most other cars.

I have done my own oil changes. I drove 150 miles to my selling dealer for the wiring harness recall.

The number on the sidewall is NOT the recommended nor the proper pressure.

 

Yeah if the dealership changed the tire pressures, odds are they set them to spec, and in the absence of instruction to the contrary, you can't really fault them for that. Talk to them beforehand; tell them you're running different (presumably higher, and hopefully not too much higher) pressures, and to please leave them as-is. If they give you grief, then I'd start looking for alternates.

And keep in mind, when you're the exception to the rule, there will be times when they slip up: it's like someone doing custom order versus sticking to the menu.

 

The recommended tire pressure for the gen2 Prius lead to uneven wear on the OEM tires.

The pressure number on the car placard is a balance between traction, comfort, safety, tread life, and efficiency. Roads, pavement, and driving styles vary through out the world. One size does not fit all in this case.
It may not apply if a tire different from the OEM one is used.
It is a recommendation, not a requirement

 

Still, the dealership service departments are not mind-readers.

 

I did that and they said they changed it anyway. They actually raised them slightly from the 38 I had, IIRC.

This is the same dealer that said the 2017 Trim Two only came with a black interior. My tan one does not exist, apparently

That's why I bought 150 miles away from a salesman who is a Gen 1 Prius owner. I saved money too.

 

And you occasionally drive there? That's getting into unhealthy obsession. Trust me, I know...

 

I do not normally go to my preferred dealer. I did not trust the local one to inspect & repair the harnes. I traveled 150 miles and got their free state inspection too (saved $16). Our family, over the years has bought 5 vehicles (3 Prius, 2 Corolla) from this dealership, 4 of them from the Gen 1 owner.

 

We go to a dentist way across town, been going there for nearly 40 years now. Way back when it was walking distance. Funny thing: the practice has changed hands three times, so in reality the third dentist at the same location.

Doing the same thing with a body shop: been using them for decades. The place just changed hands, but the same excellent workmanship.

I think Costco tire shops refuse to set the tire pressure to anything but what is on the placard.

Only an issue if someone is triggered.

 

They are not accepted by ToyotaCare for service though.

 

A perfectly logical assumption.
But in my experience it doesn't pan out.

You might be surprised at how MANY people think the "spec" is what is stamped into the sidewall.
And some of them work at car dealerships.

Which is why I always check mine BEFORE leaving the lot.
They have been found WAY high more than once.
