I have a 2012 Prius v ( lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) Five. Has anyone figured out how to override the parking brake only to get the DVD player to work while in motion?

Thanks to Andy for the well documented detailed instructions. Just did this on a 2 month old Sea Glass Pearl. Soldered stuff, blue LED for bypass, toggle switch. Photos are here.

    It was moved here.

Old thread I know, but I have a rattle under the dash ('16v) that is driving me nuts, so I would like to investigate.

Can I assume that the '16 dash removal is the same as the '12?

I have not found a thread for a '16 with these very good pictures.

I started hearing slight rattle under the dash just a week ago. When did yours occur? Is this common?

Let us know if you have success identifying and quieting the rattle.

I was also thinking of muffling out the reverse beep sound. Not drown it out, but just lower it so it's not so loud.

2 yrs. old today with 40,100 miles. It started about a month ago, mainly on less then perfect roads and seems to be coming from the center of the dash. A squeak that sounds like 2 pcs. of plastic rubbing together. Very annoying.

We had a different one last year, not as bad, when we we on one of our 5,000 mile road trips. That one was under the drivers side dash above the steering wheel and sounded like a wire hitting the a pc. of plastic. That one only lasted about an hr. between 9:00 and 10:00. (Wierd I know), and has now seemed to disappear.

The passenger cup holder was also squeaking from day 1, but that was solved by shoving a small pc. of cardboard between the dash and the holder.

I found out the rattle under my dash turned out to be my ODB2 bluetooth adapter loosely secured. After securing it the rattle stopped. Thank god I don't have to take apart my dash :) But this tutorial by OP is still helpful and will be archived when I need it.

I may have found it. Before I bought the car, the dealer had to replace the head unit when it had 5 miles on it. I took the dash apart, (fairly easy) and found the 4 bolts that hold the head unit were not tight. They each went 1/3 turn more to tight.

    Hope it helps.

I fixed the squeak in our '16 v. It started about 6 months ago and I took the dash apart and even drove it with the dash completely out and it was still there. A few weeks later I did the same thing with the help from a neighbor. It was coming from the firewall so we removed the wipers and took the plastic off at the bottom of the windshield and found a layer of dust between the 2. I cleaned the plastic and applied silicon spray where the plastic meets the windshield.

    Squeak is gone! :)
