Just to clarify for non-California readers: on our rear license plate (we are required to have one in the front too), there is a year sticker and a month sticker, which says when your annual registration expires. It is customary to just put each year's sticker on top of the preceding year's sticker, until there are "too many", and you you scrape off all 5 or 6 or whatever before applying the new one. What AR is proposing is to just put the new red decals over the green ones, assuming they are the same size.

Yes, I was wondering if that would work too as I've heard that it is very difficult to remove the old ones without damaging the paint...

Has anyone done this who had the green stickers originally? Did it seem to work well?

    Thanks!

That's ... actually very reasonable timing! Thanks for the info. I got my Prime+ 5 days ago, so I'm looking forward to going through this whole process myself.

I purchased a cheap heat gun at HF. Kept it back a few inches and moved it around per Google and instructions... Voila! they all peeled off mostly perfectly. What I mean by almost, is the stickers have a Void marking when you peel off and it isn't warm enough they will leave a little behind. No big deal though, a little goo gone and it was clean. I used some alcohol after to clean the area and put the new stickers on.

Thanks! I might give that a try. Possibly goo gone would work on its own even?

Those stickers on the paint are on there pretty darn good. If you happen to stick it on the black part, it isn't as good. You need to soften them up a bit. You don't want to scratch the paint underneath by picking at it either. The heat method leaves them soft so it tends to take it all at once as opposed to ripping into smaller pieces like some labels on boxes. YMMV. Good luck.

Blow dryer might also do the trick?

I rec'd my pre-filled application for red stickers from DMV. I actually lease a C-Max Energi, not a Prime. My question is for the name of the owner. It indicates name printed must match DMV records. DMV shows name as CAB West LLC LSR/my last name first name LSE. Do they just want my name along with my CDL or to include CAB West, curious if Toyota lists registered owner on leases like this?

Just put your name. I’ve done this three times already, it’ll come back correctly with your new stickers.

(It will show the company on the registration certificate)

It's based on the timing of application, but more importantly the date the stickers are issued. I have a 2015 Plug-in Prius, and I sent in an application on 12/30/18. Stickers have not been previously issued to the car, so it still is eligible to receive new stickers. Though I applied before 1/1/19, the sticker will be issued after 1/1/19, so I'll be having a 1st gen plug-in with purple stickers in about a month's time.
