Hello! Our 2016 Prius c had a cargo cover when we bought it used. After a rear-end repair, it was lost by the shop. They can’t seem to find a part that fits our car now.

I’m not sure if the cargo cover that was there before was a Toyota part. Any suggestions?

Make the body shop buy a new one, it's not a cheap part! 64330-52410-B3 If you do have to buy it yourself (you shouldn't) you can use the coupon code in my signature to get it a little cheaper than whats in that link.

I have a cheap solution. I bought a black bath towel and cut four tiny slits along the long side of the towel. Two of the slits are along the middle of the side and about one inch from the edge of the black towel. These match up with the posts for the center headrest, and the posts from the center headrest are slid through the holes to hold the towel in place. Next spread out the towel and cut two more slots where the towel stretches to meet the folding seat releases on the left and right sides of the top of the back seat. Hang the towel on these knobs too. Now you have a flexible, black cover, and when anyone looks in the back window, all they see is black and the cargo area looks empty. Even if they look very closely all they see is a black towel. I have used the same black towel for three years now and although the sun is fading it, this trick still works. When it fades a little more, I will just flip the towel over to the other side of thetowel which is still very dark andunfaded. I hope you find this useful. It worked very well for me.

This is a classic business liability situation. They are hoping you will go away because (they hope) it's not worth the aggravation to make them compensate you for their error. They're hoping the cost of buying a new cover is less than the cost of your time and effort to make them buy the thing. If you have proof that you had the cover before you went to the shop, and if you have their acknowledgement in writing (or text message) that they lost it, then you have a case. A strongly-worded letter advising them that you expect them to buy the replacement, or else you will complain to the Better Business Bureau, Yelp, and your state's Department of Consumer Affairs, might motivate them to find the cover they "lost", or else buy a new one for you. Don't pretend to be an attorney, just write a natural letter in your own words and send it registered mail.
