So those of you that have Apple CarPlay, is it really that much of a game changer? I’m currently waiting to see if it will be on the ‘19 Prines. I’m wondering if it’s as nice as I think???
YES carplay is amazing!! I work out of my Prius and rely on good navigation to get to my client’s homes. For me having Waze with calendar integration is crucial. For the average person, it may not be such a big deal. I really hate the headunit in the Prius Prime. I have even considered swapping it out to an aftermarket unit but am not sure if I will loose any functionality. If the 2019s have Apple CarPlay, I might consider doing a swap if it is possible.
hey coach, see dianne whitmire's most recent post. she is a dealer in cali. thinks the 19's will be out in february, and will have CarPlay
Agreed. I have the Toyota Nav in my ‘14 - and it is “OK” - but Waze on my iPhone has been my go-to for the past 5-6 years. I always use Waze everywhere I go (to be aware of acccidents, etc), and also work on the road as I am in Sales. I usually plug in the destination on both Nav’s and use the built in system for a zoomed out view, but rely on turn by turn from Waze. Not even close in terms of quality instruction (traffic, accidents, radar traps, construction, pot holes, roadkill, etc). I have also been waiting for CarPlay and my dealer tells me there is a “good chance” it comes on the 19’s, but what do they really know....? When Ontario killed the EV incentives this summer, I was tempted to close a deal on an ‘18 before losing it and also spoke with a dealer about it and test drove one, but ultimately decided to wait, as it was not the best financial decision for me at the time, despite losing the $5k rebate. I decided to wait rather than settle for a car lacking a few things I really want (CarPlay & 5 seats), since there is still nothing wrong with my 14 PiP. So we will see what the 19s (or 20s) bring.
Thanks Bisco! I am fully expecting Prius and Prime to have CarPlay in 2019 models next year. They have already incorporated the larger 11.6 screen into the package 4 vehicles this past year (2018) so CarPlay shouldn't be far behind. Hope I am right... but it will eliminate the need for the NAV as a stand alone on all models, I think? -From Dianne I hope she is correct.. thanks for the info.. guess I'll continue to wait, save, research, and anticipate!!!
I just hope for those waiting that the apple CarPlay will utilize the whole screen and not just 1/3 like the back up camera. I have an aftermarket CarPlay stereo in my smart and love it, especially now that they added waze to the capable apps. iPad ?
I just added waze to my iphone X... wow... what an amazing app! Hope I can use it next year in my '19 Prime!!!
Ditto. Hopefully it's full screen and not just like the back camera. The UI is identical in all cars so I suspect it will be 1/3rd of the screen. However, I hope if we go into Google Maps, it will become full screen.
