    Lexus brand is part of the same automaker, but in no way bound to follow Toyota brand. They have very different dealer & consumer bases.

    most automakers don't have an electric vehicle, outside of cafe requirements. tesla is really the only company committed to the cause.

    September 2018: Tesla Model 3 #13 Best Selling Vehicle In U.S.

    This line didn't do Lexus many favors in last month's auto sales. Despite Lexus having a much broader product line, with much better distribution, fit and finish, tesla outsold Lexus by 5300 light vehicles last month. Lexus's best selling vehicles the RX and NX respectively don't have bev competition yet (13,000 between the two of them). That will change when the Tesla model Y is released in a couple of years.

    The model 3 and S vastly outsell Lexus's ES, IS, GS, LC, RC, and LS combined. This will probably get worse as Tesla improves manufacturing and starts producing the standard pack 3, and refreshes the S.

    So - they still live to run attack ads - some believed that Lexus realized they took a stupid desperate advertising route when they ran THIS hit job awhile back;
    [IMG]
    ..... an act of desperation? Looks like Toyota/Lexus didn't change their ways after all. Yet who, is eating whose lunch as the sales volume of plugins continues upward. Eventually, some Lexus leader will get with reality - but un the meantime?

    It's almost as though Tesla knows Lexus' & Toyota's audience - looking at the sales numbers - and how much extremely faster tesla's & other plugin manufacturer's growth is growing - far faster then hybrids ever did.

    Globally, you could include Nissan/Renault. Renault did finally drop the battery lease only stance, so we might see proper battery cooling in a Leaf.

    There is a report that Lexus is trash talking EVs so I wondered why:
    [IMG]
    Now my eye sees initially Lexus sales were running in parallel until April 2018. There after, Lexus sales were going flat as the Tesla deliveries increased.

    To see the relationship, I plotted Tesla sales vs Lexus sales:
    [IMG]
    Sure enough, there is a straight-line relationship between Lexus and Tesla sales until Tesla went over 10,000 units. Then Lexus sales lagged. Alternatively, Tesla is a startup so everyone else appears to be 'standing still.'

    With hundreds of thousands still waiting, it's no wonder Tesla doesn't advertise. But if they did, Turnabout's fair play. How about this - for the same amount of misleading / ½ truths in advertising;

    Explosive, environmentally hazardous, Health damaging liquid Refueling -
    For those with 4 hours to waste ~

    But smear advertising is only utilized by the desperate -

    Nothing compared to the Koch brothers group planning to fund $10M in pro-gas ads and anti EV ads.

    Source? Not that I don't believe you, but so that I have a source as well when it comes out and have something to remind others about.

    What would you kind folks recommend to someone who would like an EV, but has no reasonably convenient charging possibilities?

    Depends what your price range is, but I know of lots of people that drive Tesla's in cities that don't have ability to ever plug in over night. Mind you, I wouldn't do that in a city that didn't have Superchargers and/or plenty of destination chargers.

    Wait for the charger build out if no home charging is available. It is getting better every day.

    • Prius Prime - enough EV range for around town, better than Gen-4 Prius, bargains available.
    Excellent gas mileage and utility. When things change, charging becomes trivial.

    If I lived in a city without Superchargers OR Tesla destination chargers AND had no access to overnight charging OR charging at work, then I would buy a Prius Prime.
