Does anyone have the actual part number for the rear wheel bearing assembly for a generation one Prius handy? Any help is appreciated.
The right rear is failing. So I should be able to order This part number, and swap it out? Do I need seperate sensors as well? 42450-47020
I'd probably buy a hub/bearing assembly from Rockauto. An economy one, btw. The ones in Mendel's link seem stupidly expensive. I've been using aftermarket hard parts since the '60's and rarely have any problem.
I don't know. The ones that are less than $60 are most likely made in China. There's a big jump in price above $60 tho.
Considering that this is the fourth OEM Toyota purchased one, in 158k, I'm not too worried about a Chinese one. The installation looks pretty easy, so I just wanted to confirm the part number.

It doesn't appear that the sensor is included with the OEM, and I didn't see any of the aftermarket ones that included the sensor.
All you would see is a wiring receptor, it's built right in. I'm guessing they all do have it, it's an integral part. But yeah maybe need to verify.
I replaced my Gen 1 right rear with one from the dealer, and it came with the sensor already attached. I'm not sure whether that will be true for all of the cheaper alternatives though. The repair manual does include instructions for how to remove the sensor from the old hub and press it to the new if you have to, but with the dealer hub you don't have to. -Chap
To second @ChapmanF 's report, I replaced both of my rear hubs with dealer parts (a few months apart), and they both came with a new speed sensor already pressed in to the hub. The aftermarket part I considered, I think from Autozone, also came with the speed sensor, at least according to the pictures on their site. Looking at my notes, I bought the right hub in January 2013, and the left one in June 2013. They were $250.55 each at the time, before tax. The car would have had about 182,000 and 186,000 miles on it, respectively, when I replaced them. The failed hubs were the ones that were put on the car at the factory in 2000.
