Drove my Prius to Sam's to have the tires checked and rotated. We figured on doing some shopping while this was being done. Minutes later the shop manager came looking for us and asked if there was a trick to starting the car, figuring that they hadn't put their foot on the brake, I returned to the car. Unlocking the car and getting in, sure enough when I pressed the start button nothing happened. My thoughts were "Battery has gone down" as the key lock worked and the alarm note when I put the remote in sounded. Is there anything else this may be?

    Hmm...
The easiest and first reaction is that it is the 12 volt battery. That should be easy to determine. But if this is true?

If the battery could drain to problematic levels in just minutes, It probably was pretty weak to start with. Is it the original 12 volt battery? If it is, that would clearly be my first suspect.

You didn't put a response. Was it in Park? If the transmission doesn't fully engage to Park then the car won't start. Everything else will work as normal. Could be a faulty neutral safety switch.
