Hi. I'm soon to change my Prius 2010 hybrid battery. My only option where I live is to get one from another trashed car. Do you know what models of Prius have batteries compatible with my 2010 model? Before buying it, is there any test I can do to check if the battery is in good shape or how long will it last? Thanks.
Buying another from a trashed car? Does the instrument cluster comes on, so you could read the mileage on the car? That would give you some info. When you open up the trunk, take a look at the battery cover, and module serial number, then try decoding those. I'd they are older modules, and if the pack has being tempered with, you'd know. Finally, you would only know if its OK, when its installed on the car. If you got a tech stream software, that should enabled you read life data of the state of the battery while you carry out further tests. Hope this helps.
Good tips from @Dxta. Anything from 2010 to 2015 will be a direct replacement. Everything else being equal, the newer, the better. Beyond that, there are NiMH batteries in some of the 4th generation. Those would be trim 1 and trim 2 non-ECO, I believe. You can take the cells from those and put them in your battery. You can do the same with 2nd generation (2004-2009), but those are so old they wouldn't be worth it. Welcome to Prius Chat, by the way. I looked up your area. It looks like a beautiful place.

You would need to load test it. More complex than just a static voltage measurement. Just measuring volts would be almost meaningless.
What if I do the repair and change the defective cell/s myself. I'm seeing most of the video guides around people just checking the voltage per each cell. Isn't that enough?
Not if you really want to know the capacity of the cell or module. I'm not an expert, but there are some really proficient rebuilders here, so I'd do a search for the topic. There are probably several ways you could phrase the search because we must have several hundred discussions about it.
I'm trying to investigate importing a rebuilt battery from the US. For this I need the exact specifications. I found the composition, power and everything but I cannot find anywhere, the definitive specifications for my Prius 2010 battery weight and dimensions, neither for other models. I just found on this forum something about 100lb but it's not certain. Does anybody know where I can find them?
A Gen 2 battery is about 83 pounds. I would think the Gen 3 would be very nearly the same. Not to turn this into a thread about the pros and cons of rebuilt batteries, but are you aware that new batteries don't cost much more than rebuilt, but the last a lot longer?
You mean buying it directly from Toyota or does anybody else sells them? Most of the companies I found just rebuild them. I have a quote for a new Toyota battery here in Queretaro and it's almost double the cost of any rebuilt battery in the US. I didn't know that, I'd like to find some quote, could you suggest me someone who sells them other than Toyota? Thanks.
First, different Toyota dealers have different prices, so shop around. Also some will not sell over the counter -- they insist on installing it themselves. But, even if the new battery costs twice as much, it's still a better deal than almost any rebuilt one because it'll last at least five times longer unless you get one that was meticulously rebuilt and reconditioned and have good luck with the modules that were not replaced. Perhaps check with Matt at @Texas Hybrid Batteries (Texas Prius Battery Replacement). He has good prices, but I don't know about how you'd get the battery from him. Maybe you guys could work out something. Another possibility is @2k1Toaster who sells a 3rd party compatible module. He can sell you a full set of modules that you can install yourself. Both of these guys have a lot of respect around here. There are others, I think who can help like @ericbecky, but Matt is the closest to you.
I think Texas Hybrid is in Austin. Is this better than the LQK in Burleson(28 miles) They may have some good used ones, but don't know how long they have been sitting. Price is just over 1,000 and if needed I can use my refurbish cylcle equipment. What do you know about quality and price at Texas Hybrid?
It would have to be an AWD version of the 2019 since only those used NiMH modules. Looking at the diagrams, it also does not seem like the entire assembly would be physically compatible with a 2010. The best you could do is transplant the modules, but only from an AWD Prius.
What @Mr. F said. Also, you can't just put in the pack because the cases are totally different. You need to transplant all the modules from the new battery to the old one.

yes, but you should balance everything for best results. search here for many good threads with rebuilding advice
