Engine light is ON

    I have Prius V (2012) ~127K Km (about 80K mi). My Engine light went ON.
    I check the oil, it was very low; added 1L 0-W20 but the light was still ON. I disconnected the battery negative terminal for 5min.; connected back and the Engine Light went away. Hope, it stays this way.

    Though, I'm surprised, I had an oil changed at 119K km now I have 127K Km made only 8K km (5K mi) on this oil and the oil was very low. Previously I made almost 16K km between oil changes and never had to add any oil.

    The engine light signifies a code has been stored. The fact that you disconnected the battery “temporarily” fixed the problem until it happens again. You need to scan the vehicle or have it scanned to determine the real cause.

    you're right around the mileage where the egr clogs and blows the head gasket.
    it's time to get serious about your maintenance before you get a huge repair bill.

    Highly unlikely low oil caused a check engine. Most auto supplies will scan and clear for free although you have brute force cleared it now and have cleared all engine self tuning parameters. It could be one of a thousand codes from the gas cap being loose to excessive engine temp. Find out next time. If it blinks shutdown immediately.

    get the mini vci with tech stream if you can. cheap money, but you need a compatible laptop.
    otherwise, torque app is decent.
    that way, you will have more than check engine reading ability for the future.

    I did, the gas cap is on. I just fill-up the gas and the light is still ON.

    if the cap was loose, it takes a few days for the light to go out. otherwise, it is more significant.

    I just ordered ELM 327 BT adapter to check the codes much cheaper than Dealer 1hr. service :-/
    Though, it might have to do something with the gas tank. When I'm putting gas-in at the pump the spout gets easily triggered and turn OFF so I have to put the gas IN very slowly. Before I could squeeze the pup handle all the way and wait till it turn itself off.

    I re-setted the light by disconnecting the battery cable again. I think my scan tool will come before the light would reset itself (it it was a gas cap).

    I did not scan the codes yet, but it seems to me I have a evaporative emissions problem in my fuel tank. When I put the gas IN " fuel nozzle keeps clicking off. " Any idea how to fix it?

    no. you'll have to get the codes, then follow the service manual troubleshooting repair tree.

    Turning the CEL off does nothing to fix the underlying problem. Get it read even if you have to go to an auto parts store and have them read the codes. They often do it for free.

    I got the scanner today ELM327C (blue tooth) and using torque software I printed codes:
    P043e
    P043f
    P2401
    P2402
    P2419

    All these codes pertain to "Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Reference Orifice Low Flow"
    About two weeks ago I overfilled the gas tank put about 45L and I wasn't empty (gas tank capacity itself is 45L) so most likely some gas went to Evap Canister.
    I re-setted the codes but I'm sure they will be back.

    SOLVED

    I used a simple "electric duster" (picture enclosed) for 4-5min.
    Put the nozzle into a gas tank and I blow the air IN.
    I would not use any compressor (too much pressure). The fuel was somehow cleared from the evap canister. After the engine light and engine errors codes came only once (I think) and clearing them they never come back. I'm on my second gas tank and no error codes show up.
    In addition the gas pump did not triggering off the fuel pump spout.

    Simple procedure saved me about $1000CAD

    If you're trying to squeeze as much in the tank as possible, go back to stopping at the first click. Don't run it low either: it's a mugs game seeing how far you can go on a tank.

    And yeah: sounds like your car is starting to drink oil. Check it frequently.

    What oil change interval are you using? The recommended oil change interval is 8000 kms, or 6 months. It's in the Ower's Manual Supplement booklet. Which if you're missing, can be downloaded here:

    Note, both Oil & Filter Service and Maintenance Service include an oil and filter change. Confusing, but bottom line is: you're supposed to change the oil and filter every 6 months or 8000 kms.

    Note for anyone reading along: this is the Toyota Canada schedule; US schedule lets the oil and and filter go twice as long.

    Oil change intervals after 24K km should be every 16000km or 12months (not every 8000km).
    And that is what I'm using every 16K km or once a year.

    No. Again, both "Oil and Filter Service" and "Maintenance Service" include an oil and filter change: upload_2018-10-29_10-13-9.png

    The booklet is poorly written: it's deplorable that something so fundamental as oil change interval is expressed thus, but yeah, 3rd gen Canadian Prius oil change interval is every 8k kms or 6 months. For confirmation, the Toyota Canada interactive website:
