Okay, we now have some head to head competition with Tesla 3 Performance and BMW M3 Performance. Here is the tale of the tape: Price: BMW 3 = ~$82K Tesla 3 = ~$72KWeight: BMW 3 = ~ 3400 Tesla 3 = ~ 3900Horsepower BMW 3 = 458HP Tesla 3 = 450HP And here is the result.
And it won by several car lengths. And by car I mean bus. Skip to 1:40 of the video if you just want to see the 1st race of 2.
Yeah, he won by 0.4 seconds and at 114mph, that translates to about 70 feet or about 4 car lengths. The Bummer driver really has to be wondering what his extra $10K really bought him other than a distant second place. He said he's going to put more money into his car to make it faster, like tuned exhaust (as opposed to Tesla's no exhaust). He would be better off trading his brand new car in on something that would put him in first place and save himself money on improvements, maintenance, and "fuel" expense.
Sounds like a wise investment...Make BMW Great Again! Joking aside, if BMW released a car closer to this 0-60 speed Elon would release a software update to beat it. The Tesla cars are being dialed down for safety.
This is the beauty of OTA improvements. The next test will be how the Tesla 3 will do against the BMW M3 on the track. Elon says the model 3 will beat it. I believe him! BMW is not going to suffer these defeats by rolling over. Look for BMW to really up their game in the BEV marketplace, but it is going to take them 2 to 4 years to catch up. And then Tesla will be 4 years further down the road with even newer technology!
Yep, “Chill” mode, although it still has more umpff than most will need. None do, but they are starting to see this is inevitable and need to position themselves such that they can make the switch.
it will be interesting to see at what percent of market share tesla controls that might cause someone to get off the pot.
easy now . . . . this IS PriusChat .QUOTE="bisco, post: 2786494, member: 5889"]it will be interesting to see at what percent of market share tesla controls that might cause someone to get off the pot.[/QUOTE] was that another Musk comment? .
apparently, they don't care about luxury sales, but what happens if and when tesla starts making bread and butter products?
And Tesla will as soon as a prudent business model will allow it. And then the legacy "low end" automakers will be in a world of hurt unless they (e.g. Toyota) get on the BEV bandwagon pronto.
that is how i see it as well. too lines are heading for an intersection. one is cost, and the other is demand. when they meet, the world will explode.
