Does anyone know what company supplies the guidance for the 2018 Prius Prime? It certainly is not Google. The system I have is (a) unable to recognize the best routes, and (b) hopelessly out of date with its maps.

I realize that I probably can get around (a) with enough programming of preferred routes, but how do I deal with (b)? The system doesn't know about roads that I've been using for years, and so tries to send me longer and slower ways. I can always (and do) use Google on my cell phone, but the larger map display of the pre-installed system is a benefit when navigating unfamiliar areas.

    Thanks.

It’s been this way since the Gen2 Prius in 2004. Map updates (when available) cost $$ and come on an SD memory card. The card slot is out of view below the lower edge of the screen.

Thanks; that's what I needed to know. I had suspected the system was in the T.O.B. category, and it's nice to have confirmation.

As best as I can tell, the "latest" maps are still dated 2017-04. I haven't seen anyone report having anything more recent.

    About NavTeq HERE:

Navteq is now HERE: Navteq Maps, Updates & Support

It’s now owned by a bunch of Auto Manufacturers who determined that accurate map data is essential to autonomous driving, and chipped in to buy it. (To catch up to Tesla I believe).

And yet, when you go there to look for Toyota maps:

"HERE does not sell map updates for Toyota vehicles. You can access the Toyota site below for additional information. Please note that you will be taken to an external site that is neither owned nor operated by HERE."

    Right back to the dealer.

ziggy29, the latest models seem to have started using Garmin, which you can download on your own. I think 1 update, or 1yr, is free.

Have you used maps downloaded from Garmin with the factory-installed navigation system in a fourth-generation Prius or Prius Prime car sold in the U.S. or Canada? It’s possible that the Garmin website may support only Toyota navigation systems sold in other countries.

In the manuals for both the 7-inch (Panasonic) (PDF) and 11.6-inch (Denso) (PDF) navigation systems offered in the U.S., Toyota writes, “Map database is made based on AISIN AW maps, whose information source comes from HERE maps,” and I thought those updates were available only by purchasing a new microSD card at a dealer or elsewhere, as discussed in this previous thread and several others.

My wife has an ‘18 Honda Clarity, the latest Toyota/Scion is ‘14 iQ with the HDD ACN fiasco. The ‘12 Prius v has the Denso HDD, also ACN fiasco.

That is the USA site I linked, I think. Don’t know why there is that language in the lower right....

The procedure requires you to go to the car first and prepare a microSD. Then take it to the Garmin Software which verifies available update. I hope anyone with a newer Prius and upset with map data try. For the Honda Clarity it is:

To be honest I do not know which systems use what. I can only say to go to the menu option in the Nav as instructed to “update” and try to prepare a blank 4 GB microSD, if it is an option. The Garmin software Garmin Express is the same for Honda.....
