Because free makes people stupid and entitled.

Selling electricity at places like these at market rates would still be generous from the provider who would not recoup the install and maintenance costs of the charging unit. But it would be useful for those with limited range PHEVs/EVs and keep away most squatters and open up chargers for folks who bring business to the mall.

Sounds like bad actors all the way around. The world is full of jack@ss Tesla and Prius owners and every other brand. This is how we make America great again, too many people acting like a jack@ss from the President on down. I charge at home for free, thank you

A hypothetical example: Say gasoline is going for $4/gallon locally. One gas station decides to sell for $2/gallon as some promotion. Lines will be down the street and people will wait an hour and idle to save a $10-20 in gasoline.

Most of the drivers would probable make more than this with an hour of working.

So today they were giving away free milk to everyone...and boy is there a line. Even though I have plenty at home, I get a sudden thirst so I jump to the front of the line. It will only take a couple of minutes and besides...I'm special...because I'm lactose tolerant.

A question, how many miles at an L2 station, in a few minutes, would the Tesla have gotten?

idk, but it wouldn't surprise me if some people don't charge at home so they don't have to pay for the electricity, and spend all their time looking for free chargers.

doesn't matter what they drive. sometimes the more money they have, the cheaper they are.

My parents used to stand in line for an hour or more when the Government was giving away a pound of free cheese to seniors back in the '70's when they could afford to buy a truck load if they wanted. It didn't make sense to me but what else did they have to do with their time than stand in line?

I avoid "free" chargers like the plague. They bring out the worst in people.

Looking at PlugShare, most report 22-24 amps at the mentioned station, so maybe 15 miles with an hour or charge. 5 minutes would give only 1.25 miles. Would be much better off not risking this stop on a low charge since PlugShare rates it so low.

The X gets ~3miles/kwh and charging 22amps at (many are) 208V is only ~4.5kW's - so in 5 minutes you'd get ⅓of a Kwh. One mile of traveling! Woo hoo! Don't use it all in one trip

Supercharger locations charge around 40¢/minute when drivers become campers instead of chargers. Funny how irate tesla owners get - having to fork over $4 when their entitled status isn't recognized during that 10 minutes of transgression. Equally humerus, how fast those lazy slobs can get it back to their ride to avoid that $4 fee, nevermind they just sucked up $20 of free juice - if they are driving an S or an X.

    Hey!
I own both a Tesla and a PIP. So not all Tesla owners are like this.
I've never unplugged anyone at a public charging station in order to charge myself.
(Except at work where we all cooperate an unplug each other when done, etc.

I know not all of them are like that idiot. These kind of drivers should be ashamed of themselves.
With their plate "HANDSOF", it really does apply to them. For me it's very rude to have that plate on your car.

If my Leaf was on empty and your PHEV was charged and had the plug locked on, I might just ruin your day as well.

When I lock my car, it locks the J1772. There are times and areas I don't want the contents of the car becoming someone else's "bargain bin." For example, I might leave the cell phone in the car, in an obscure location, while going into a movie, medical office, or other cell phone hostile venues.
