The utter fail white plumbing pieces defacing Prime interior

2017 Toyota Prius Prime Interior Trim Shifter Applique - OEM Toyota Parts

 

They suggest doing whole cars with this stuff. Compared to the knackered bit, this looks pretty good, but the is a lot of orange peal in the paint. Can this be controlled? It actually looks pretty good on the cup holder bit and like it was part of the design on the shift lever, but I wouldn't want a whole car with orange peel paint. (EG: Not smooth)

 

It might depend on how far back you hold the spray. Plastic-dip also comes in cans, for dip or brush on.

I actually like the "orange peel" texture in my application, wanted something in between mat and satin, with a bit of grain.

Perhaps there is something to be said for getting really good technology to handle the mission at hand.

My car came with covers over the majority of the white bits. I think they are available as add-ons in the parts department as well. The white Qui pad was especially egregious as someone might break into your car to steal the nonexistent iPhone that appears to be there! (My Qui pad is black like the rest of the console.) There IS a cure for much of the whiteness. Part of my steering wheel is still white though.

 

Hehe there is a cure for blackeness too... after the installation of my dark grey-almost white seat covers, I've decided that I prefere the central consolle withe instead than black (the latter BTW is a real dust magnet). But you can't have everything, do not you?

 

I like the white and black. However, it is a lot of white. My wife calls it the Orca.
This seems to have helped. It's a custom fit 16 piece black mat set for the compartment liners and interior spaces, like door handle areas, trays, cup holders, phone charging area, etc. Makes it look much better. Comes in solid black, or black trimmed in either red or blue. I got the blue trimmed. Looks good with the blue accents in the car. Got it on Amazon. (click link)

 

There is a cover for the white around the shifter and the steering wheel, they both use double backed tape and work amazing well, just keep in mind that if you don't want to wait several weeks order them from a US location. I ordered the steering wheel cover from China and apparently the boat ran into some rough seas, four weeks later and it worked perfect. I don't know who liked the white, but it is perfect now. Just Google both items and install in less than a minute ($65 total Cost) and your BRUTAL white will be hidden forever.

 

The shifter piece is different depending on whether the car is LHD or RHD. There is also a console appliqué to cover most of the console. The cup holders stay white I believe.

 

I have these also. I like that stuff doesn’t move around in the front center area. Not bad on price also.


iPhone ?

 

I purchased my '18 Prime with a black interior so at least the center console was black from the factory including the cup holders. I negotiated the black shifter applique as a dealer installed option as part of the "deal".
It makes a whole world of difference.
I wish Toyota made a applique for the steering wheel but they don't. I found one on eBay and purchased one but it'll be a few days before I get it.

My Prime has the moonstone interior and for me the white plastic is complimentary and looks great.

 

i have it from ebay - havent installed it yet. I like the black kit. I may do the same upgrade.

did you use a heat gun or blow dryer as the instructions call for? This part has been sitting in my glove compartment for months..

 

Mine came with no directions so I used the directions for the lower shifter applique.
The temperature in my garage was such that no heating was required.
I just made sure I positioned it exactly before I pressed it into place.
If you don't do that it could be a problem to re-position it later.
