testing mfd screen without car

@kennyd , here is the pinout of the M13 connectors on 2004-05 and 2006-09.

On 2006-09 MFDs, Pins 2, 3, & 10 need +12v, pin 1 is ground (-). If I recall correctly, I have tried to power up a spare MFD and it did not work, so I suspect that there is a "start" signal that I missed. (I also may have had a bad test lead .) Or, the ILL +/- wires may also need power and ground. I was going to try 12v+ on pin 17 and see if that was the missing signal, but it might need a data link to the Combination Meter. (I'm in the middle of a big project and my spare MFDs are a little buried right now.)
A nav screen will work if you don't have nav (if you press a nav button it will just say something like "External device not connected") but the regular hybrid functions will all work.
If your MFD has an M14 connector, then the nav MFD may have a different size M14 and you would lose bluetooth (if you have it.)
If you have JBL, pay attention to the M14 pin count!

This YouTube video Toyota Prius MFD & Navigation Unit Digitizer Repair @ Highline Car Care shows them running a 2008 MFD on their workbench. Might be able to zoom in and see what wires they are using...

 

If you put power on the six main wires, it will boot up and work. I have confirmed this on a 86110-47081, I believe it will also work on the newer MFDs (86110-47230).

On the 86110-47081, on the M13 connector, put
12v+ on pins 1, 10,11, & 12 and
GND on pins 2 & 3

on a 86110-47230 (or any 2006-2009 hi-res screen), on the M13 connector, put
12v+ on pins 2, 3, 10, & 12
GND on pins 1 & 11

UPDATE:
Verified That the 86110-47230 does work AND all you need is the Yellow and Gray power wires, and you can ground the metal case, so:
for lo-res models (86110-47080, -47081, -47070, and -47071) connect pins 11 & 12 to 12v+ and ground the case,
for hi-res models (86110-47210, -47230, and -47220) connect pins 2 & 3 to 12v+ and ground the case.

 

Can the Low-Res Monitor from a 2004-2006 Prius fit in place of a High-Res monitor from a 2006 - 2009?

 

I tried this with mine, it did power on but i only got the toyota logo illuminated for a few seconds and then it went dark. Did it stay on when you tested yours? How did it respond?

 

Im presently trying to test mine. I only connected pins 2 & 3 to 12v+ and grounded the case.
All it did was illuminate the toyota logo briefly and then went blank.
