    Hello all.

I thought I'd get my wife a Christmas present and update her 2008 Prius Navigation DVD with the current one, (she still has the original DVD that came with the car). As I'm looking at various places on-line, best I can find is the U39 v14.1 (86271-GEN5W-16) DVD from 2014/2015.

I've seen various notations that say this is the last update Toyota will do for the gen 2 Prius.

    Is this true?
And if so, does anyone know of a good place to get an OEM disc from (rather than ebay)?

Just an update to anyone looking, I called the dealer and they did say this disc was the last update Toyota would be doing for the Gen 2 Prius. Bummer. But I'm sure it's better that the 2008 disc that's in there now.

So back to my second question, does anyone know a good place to get the OEM disc other than Ebay?

The dealer wants $180.41. A couple of the on-line places I've looked at are about the same price when you add in shipping. If someone knows of a cheaper place, that would be greatly appreciated.

You might consider just getting her a Garmin unit. We picked one up with lifetime maps and traffic updates for $80. Much better information and much easier to use.

Ebay had several later updated Navigation DVD's listed at $9.95 - $13.95. Just do a search for Prius GPS DVD. I bought one from 2015 for my 2006. I believe it to be a bootleg copy, but it worked great. I had the original and the newer copy had many of the roadway changes on it. I also have an Iphone and that works great as well, especially when plugged into the AUX.
But, if you would like the satisfaction of giving dealerships piles of cash for overpriced hardware, I am certain that they can accommodate you. (y)

So why can't you pop in the latest Nav DVD in older vehicles? You would think Toyota would want people to be safe and have the most up to date maps, it also allows to get more money from us. :)

There is a guy that makes custom made navi content on DVDs, etc. for Toyotas. He can make maps for countries that never were covered by Toyota like Mongolia, Bielorus, some African countries. I contacted him regarding Prius gen 2 and he gave me quote for 8 Gb ISO file with US latest maps including buildings, POI and red light cameras. He is looking for a distributor for his product. Please let me know if someone would be interested .

bisco - Apparently you missed the information. Toyota let the dealers (and others) that last year's 2017 update would be the last for the Gen II Prius. There is no new one coming from them. The update Paul Schultz asked about is the one being developed by a private party.

    Hi!
I have Toyota Prius Gen 2 (Model 2006). Recently I have bought NAV Map DVD (2016 Maps) from ebay and replace with old one. The problem is that the address search is not working properly. I have removed old DVD and inserted the new one. It takes 5 to 10 sec when I wrote some letters of an address. One more thing observed if I search again the same address which search/open before then it goes faster.

I have done the activity which suggested by the seller, removed the new navigation disc (which was in CD box). Disconnect both batteries and wait for 15 minutes. After that connected batteries back and started the car. The navigation screen showed Chinese characters and nothing was loaded. Then I inserted the new Dvd, it loaded and search address again. But the response is similar as before.

Is this DVD issue or any software needs to update in the car?
Kindly assist. See DVD type in the attachment.

    Thanks

How credible is the ebay source you purchased from? I remember reading threads around here a couple of years ago about the problems associated with ebay "clone" DVDs that were being sold as OEM. Apparently something in the programming required only original OEM discs. Could that be the source of your issues?
