I have the Rostra 250-1836 kit. THe instructions with the kit direct me to add wires. The video reference given in this forum says if you have a pre wired then you only need to clip the ground wire and plug in the unit. How do I verify pre wired or not?
might want to search more. and dont be so butthurt if people don't respond to your beck and call within a day's time on a weekend.
Well it was not pre wired. I needed to add two wires. The kit came with wires but I could not get the wire to insert correctly. It would not push in far enough to lock in place. The dealer recommended at local installer and 30 minutes and 100 dollars the job is done.
I put the kit into my 2014 C1. I had no problems installing it and it works like a champ. I've seen the kit on another website now for $14. It might not have instructions, but my kit did. Like I said, it was really easy and I had no issues installing.
The only way to verify pre-wired is to remove the steering column shroud and examine the black connector which is next to the off-white connector. Should the lower left two contact positions (these are pins 1 and 2) be empty, then the car is not pre-wired for CC. The various kits intended for Prius c One CC installations come with one to six pre-made wires. Only two are necessary, and are brown and black in a Rostra CC kit, but could be black and black in a non-Rostra kit.
I have BOTH, but I actually installed the 14 dollar kit. Some points about the 14 dollar kit: 1) the supplied ground wire is JUST long enough; it really should have been a couple of inches LONGER, but it WILL WORK, 2) the supplied cruise wire is TOO LONG by a couple of feet, which you should coil up and attach to a convenient point within the left side interior of the dash using Ty-Wraps, and 3) it is NOT NECESSARY to electrically disconnect the airbag during installation, just rotate it upwards and temporarily, but carefully, store it on top of the steering wheel (you should still temporarily disconnect the battery's ground connector, which may be reconnected immediately after the airbag has been reinstalled). Some of the kits intended for installation on certain Prius models state that the cruise control will not work properly without also installing an updated brake switch and its associated adapter cable. This is not necessary on the Prius c One as the switch and cable are already installed, even though the One may not be otherwise pre-wired for cruise control.
The supplied ground wire is just long enough UNLESS you need the wheel closer to the driver than about one-half of its total travel. Should you exceed this travel, the ground wire will be ripped out of the G5 connector and the CC won't work any more. The solution is to add about a foot to the length of the ground wire and to place a loop into it, securing the loop to a suitable point using a Ty-Wrap. Be sure to check the loop throughout the entire travel of the wheel (backwards and forwards, upwards and downwards) before securing the loop.
Hi guys.I have a 2012 Toyota Aqua.It has the multi media display.I installed a Toyota cruise control switch and connected up the two wires .The cruise control icon on the display lights up but when i try to drive away i get an error message...Do i need to install a fuse?Any ideas are welcome.Thanks..
I bought from this guy from China: Cruise Control Switch 84632 34011 84632 34017 84632 0F010 45186 47030 C0 Steering Wheel Cover black Dark grey For Toyota Prius-in Cruise Control Units from Automobiles & Motorcycles on AliExpress The ground wire is too short even after I adjusted the wheel, it won't even reach the black connector. I have a hard time keep the wires stay inside the connector, not sure if they are the wrong wires, or there may be a way to loose up the connector to let the wire go inside? Where can I buy wires like these cheap? Thanks.
update: I just found out what the problems are. it turns out that there are ground screws on both side. The right screw is barely long enough. The retainer of the connector needs to be pushed in before inserting the wires. Now it works.
