2017 Prime Premium Auto Insurance

I'm paying $1200/year in a Seattle suburb. 28 years old, nothing on my record.

 

I am assuming it is for full coverage, but what type of liability and how much deductible? Was the cost increased from your previous car? If so by how much? In addition to where you live, how old you are, what is your driving record and your credit, there are so many factors that affect insurance premium. Exactly the same coverage of insurance policies from company A can be as much as five times higher than company B in my experience. Have you shop around to see what kind of rate you would get from other companies? $500/yr sounds very good rate to me.

 

i'm paying $1,000. for a 6 year old car. no senior/retired discounts.

 

I'm paying $800/yr. $100 collision, $0 comprehensive. I get a multi-line discount. State Farm.
I replaced a '09 Toyota Venza which I was paying $600/yr for identical coverage.
Compared to the Venza the Prime premium deltas are:
Liability +20%
Comprehensive +50%
Collision +100%
With the cost of repairs I can see Comprehensive and Collision being more but why an increase in Liability?
Do they think I am more likely to have an accident?
Maybe the Safety Features are offset by more distractions in the cockpit?

There is no such thing as a consistent industry standard definition of Full Coverage. Pick the coverages you need for your situation.

Dial for dollars. Determine the coverages you need. Phone around to all the reputable companies and agents you can find and ask the rates. Consider bundling your other policies to get discounts...homeowner's, RV, boat, auto, earthquake, umbrella, whatever meets your needs. Find the best rates for the bundle.

Nobody else's rates relate to yours. Every state, every region of the state is different. The sleazy insurance companies (every one) may use things like credit scores to price your policies. That makes no real difference in the risk; it give the companies a reason to raise your rates. No one gets the "best" rate. Do your homework. Or, make your independent agent do it for you.

 

We traded in a 2015 Prius 4 for a prime advanced. Chose same coverages as we had on the 2015 and insurance went up a whopping $8/YEAR.

This is bundled 3 cars full coverage 1 car liability and homeowners insurance.

The insurance premium on our Prime is nearly identical to our 8 year old KIA Rondo ($900/yr CDN) with similar coverage. But, our insurance company also gives a 10% discount on hybrid and electric cars, so our Prime is actually a little less than our KIA. When I asked about this, the agent said they base the lion's share of the insurance premium on theft rate, and apparently both KIA Rondos and Prius's are not really 'prime' cars to steal
