On the ceiling to the right of the courtesy lights switch is a small hole with a white LED deep inside. What is that for?
Some of us filled the knob with bright glow powder on our 2010's. illuminate the joystick shifter? | PriusChat It was a cool little mod. No the LED is not bright enough to charge the glow powder.
IIRC someone was saying the little floodlight for the shifter was a bit off, centred on a spot slightly further back. There was speculation that it was aimed at shifter location in an earlier 4th gen iteration, before a centre console was nixed and the shifter moved to the lower dash. Just speculating.
It's not always on. Each of the two times I've noticed it the cabin was dimly lit. Maybe the same sensor that dims the instrument displays?
Just a courtesy light to give you a small amount of light so it's not so dark you can't see a thing. There is one at the feet also. I remember seeing an option to turn it off somewhere.
