No dash lights no back up camera no door chime no ready light no average consumption or mileage change on the MFD no gas gauge no speedometer no odometer or trip no cruise control no current consumption and the car isn't logging miles to my knowledge. Anyone know how to pull my dash, so I can solder out the weak cap for a new one as the dealer is ready to rape me without lube for the whole combination meter when it's just this capacitor has leaked down and needs to be swapped out. I know about unhooking my 12v battery and hooking it back up as a temporary solution. I would like to just do it the right way the first time and I can't afford to pay $100 an hour for labor. I just beat lung cancer and then had a jeep without insurance hit me and destroy my Sonata so I depleted what was left of my savings and even maxed out my credit cards and borrowed money to get this car after weeks of researching all about them and their being known for being so reliable and so efficient. Now if not for Prius Chat (which I have no clue if I'm even using correctly by the way), YouTube and all of the different forums. I would really be freaking out and saving to be ripped off right now. Is anyone here from Colorado and good at interior that could give me a hand please? I hate interior noise and if I do it myself, this car will no longer be nice or quiet on the inside...
If possible message me directly as I can't even find my other posts. I don't know what I am doing on this app yet. TIA Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
There's a recall / free replacement of the screen in my profile pic if that's what's failed. I don't think that one has expired yet? But based on your story it sounds like more than that?
It's a capacitor on the board that the screen in your pic is mounted to. It has many functions including smart key and door ajar light which I forgot to mention in my post. Let me try to tag you in my post. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Is the recall on all gen 2's? As mine just had recall work on the inverter pump and they didn't mention it...
You're going to need to buy a combination meter, from Matt texashybridbatteries Then look at YouTube to take apart the dash and replace it Won't get extra noises when you're done
Oh.... Now I understand... It's fairly easy to take a dash apart, just super time consuming and takes lots of finger coordination. There should be a youtube video on it somewhere.
I don't need a meter. Just a capacitor and I destroy interior when I mess with it. I already broke stuff just trying to access my 12v batt. I'm just going to leave out the red part I broke so it isn't making noise until I can replace it. I watched you tube videos. Those interior pillars will never go back on if I take them off. My side curtain air bags will be forever exposed. I have a $6k 4x4 that is parked that I only drive when I have to because the dash needs pulled to do the ac evaporator and heater core while it's out.
Lol, yea I broke the red part on my 12v too. Bad design! The important part is I haven't broken the red part in my friend's Priuses when I work on them.
What red part on the 12v can break? The positive terminal cover? It snaps into place or you can remove it all together
One other solution you might try is find a wrecking yard with a Prius and practice taking a dash apart there. A used Capacitor from a wrecking yard might be cheaper too?
Pull and pay! That's a great idea! I will know how to pull my dash and stuff without breaking it once I go ruin theirs figuring it out. That's brilliant and I can take a spare mfd and combo meter while I'm at it! Thank you so much for the great idea PriusCamper! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I've got mad skills! I took a flat head to it to get the clips to release and broke the one off all the way to I just tossed it in the armrest. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I hear that. Very poor design! I am afraid to touch my own interior, let alone anyone elses! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
