I think I knew this was a feature but maybe not - SO COOL though - the preconditioning of the cabin temperature. That plus heated steering wheel in winter - yeah buddy!

Every day I drive to work is a new adventure. Can I make it 35.7miles without using a drop of gas? Today, for the seventh time this summer, the answer was yes. EV meter read 34.5 miles (although the Entune app read 37??). Using eco mode and a/c set at 70 deg and it still chugged along. Love this car!

 

That's something I don't get. I just bought a Prime three days ago. When I fully charge the EV meter still says only 22 miles (not panicking since I've read other threads where this is not uncommon at first). But the Entune app said I had 24 miles when fully charged. Not sure why these are different; it's as if they are getting data from different sources or they are calculating the same data differently.

 

With Prime specific components, from I have read here and other sources, number of charge cycle and condition of charging must be more important than time or distance. If you do very frequent charging under extreme temperature (very hot or very cold), that must be detrimental to the traction battery. With other components of the car, if they are as good of quality as any other Toyota vehicles, for my climate, time is the limiting factor than distance driven. With my experience of Toyota and Honda vehicles owned longer than 10 years, it did not matter what was mileage on them, after 10 years on NE winter roads, rust eat up underside and body elements leading to the demise. Car with 30K miles or 300K miles does not matter when it is driven regularly on our salty NE winter roads, rust is the number 1 enemy.

Your range should keep increasing if you drive conservatively. My Prime started at 19 miles right after I picked up from a dealer. The car had been test-driven many miles, I had 160 miles on odometer when I purchased it NEW. But within a week of purchase, I could get the EV range number up to 30 miles. I don't have Advanced model, so no Entune app, but I think I've read somewhere that Entune app EV range is for without AC, and in car display if you have AC on will show the lower number. Check to see you in car number with AC off and compare it with Entune app number.

 

Ah, that makes sense, since I do have the AC mode on and I notice that when I turn it and the fan off the calculated range increases by close to 2 miles. When I get to it next time I'll turn it off and if it goes to 24, that's probably it.

 

Mine had 11 miles at purchase but the MPG was only around 17 at the time, so yeah, mostly HV, I'm sure.

For what it's worth, today (with the fan/AC on) I started up from a full charge with 22.0 miles reportedly left. I just finished driving about 4 miles in town and it still shows 20.3 miles left, not 18. So I am clearly getting more than what the computer is guessing at, which (as far as I can tell in this forum) is not uncommon at first.

 

Yes. The range appears to decrease by 0.7 miles with ac turned on. I have verified this multiple times. But I’m willing to give up a few tenths of range for some additional creature comforts. Lol.

It will improve dramatically. You should be up over 30 miles in no time. Happy driving!

 

Indeed, the second page of this document plots a graph based temperature and energy consumption. According to their research (using the Nissan Leaf as an example) the "sweet spot" seems to be around 60º-70ºF but remains pretty efficient in the 50-80 range. Below 40 and above 80, the efficiency really starts to deteriorate rapidly.
