Thanks for posting this. I'll be moving into my first home in a few months and we were worried my fiance's Tiguan would be doing the bulk of the work! I automatically assumed the Prime wouldn't be able to handle most larger things, whether it's at Home Depot or just getting some furniture out of my parents' house.

Keep in mind that if you remove the two headrests and move the front seat forward all the way you can fold the back seats flat with the front seat and make an area that's bigger than you can get in most SUVs.

    Hi Guys,
I know this may be a funny question but I wanted to see if you guys think a 50 gal water heater would fit my Prius 2005 with the seats folded down? it looks like there is plenty of room. ( the water heater is not working, I just need to move it a different place ) thanks :)

I just watched one of those "disassembling the Prime" YouTube videos from the professor in Ohio (link in one of the other forums here somewhere), and in the middle of the long 2nd part video where he shows the inside of the Prime battery, he says that somewhere in the Prime Owners Manual it says to be careful about loading liquids in the hatch of the Prime, since the battery isn't completely sealed. I didn't read (or remember) the warnings in my manual that well but I suppose it was a warning to make sure any and all liquids put in the hatch are thoroughly sealed and won't start leaking or dripping down to where the battery is, underneath the hatch...

    Page 565.

Do not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle, such as on the floor, in the
hybrid battery (traction battery) air intake vent, and in the luggage compartment.
Doing so may cause the hybrid battery (traction battery), electrical components,
etc. to malfunction or catch fire.

I think you are referring to the lectures by John Kelly at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. He has a whole series of lectures on hybrid and ev systems including the Prius series of vehicles. His lectures include both overviews and detailed disassembly/reassembly of key subsystems. The most recent lecture is the reassembly of the Prius Prime battery pack. Mr. Kelly has a background as an automotive tech who then went to school and eventually acquired his masters degree. So, he can teach from a great deal of pragmatic/real world experience.

I've watched several of his videos, learned a lot about the hybrid and how the Ford hybrid is so similar to the Prius. When I found a good deal on a C-Max Energi, I wasn't as reluctant to try an American brand again, so far it's worked out well.

Right, sorry about that, it's the professor in Ogden UT not Ohio. He has some great videos out...

I remember all the acronyms, and after a new '66 and a new '68, I believed most of them. I have found that some of the simple maintenance items are harder to accomplish such as the air filter, the cabin air filter and the oil change requires removing the entire undercover. There are other things that I like that offset those inconveniences. The 56.3 MPG average over the 10,000 miles even though I live 25 miles from anything and that puts me in hybrid mode on almost all my trips.

Whither this thread. There hasn't been a picture of stuff crammed into the back of a Prime in 18 posts now!

Okay...this was today. Two airplanes, two tool boxes, one transmitter case, one jug of water, lunch and two people.

You need to lay off the carbs, my friend. You are headed for obesity, Type 2 diabetes and your nearest kin enjoying the Prime while you gasp for air six feet under. But it is amazing the space the Prime has. In one trip to the store it can haul enough stuff to ensure poor health. :)

I put a chest freezer in mine. With the hatch closed.
