I am looking to upgrade the front door and dash speakers of my 2012 (Three) V non-JBL sound system. Should I go with a component set where the 6.5 is in the door and the tweeter is in the dash via a crossover? Or should I just upgrade the door with a standalone 6.5 and a separate upgraded 3.5" in the dash? Any opinions out there?
Best results are with a speaker level amp driving new rear speakers and optionally a small sub. The front speakers are not the biggest problem and the head unit can’t really be changed. To easily maintain front to rear balance I would allow the head unit to drive the front even if those speakers are renewed.
I'll am looking to run an amp in the future but it just isn 't an option at the moment. So if you had only the option to upgrade the fronts, would it be components or individual speakers running off the current head unit?
I would just replace the front door speakers but the results will disappoint. You have to understand the system already has crossovers, the dash speakers are not easy to get to and the rear speakers are the problem with this car’s audio. Try changing the fade to 100% rear and listen to what you are leaving untouched. And they are the mid to low frequency components. Probably $500 would get an amp and rear speakers.
Good point. I'll check out that fade and see what sound I am dealing with in the front. I absolutely hate the stock HU and Entune. I'm just thinking that no matter what I do if my HU is garbage then adding an amp and upgraded speakers will be garbage as well. I could be wrong though. Hopefully that isn't the case.
someone who appreciates classical music upgraded the front door speakers to bbl ($99. at crutch field) and said it made all the f=difference in the world. they were prepared to go much further but didn't feel it was necessary after that.
The headunit basic quality is fine. You can hear it in CDs and HD FM radio from time to time. The amp is limited and the back speakers are almost non-existent. Not saying upgrading the front door speakers won't help but it is likely less than desired. A small amp under the passenger seat controlled exclusively off the head unit along with better back speakers will make a difference you can hear. You really don't want too much power rattling those doors, there is almost no acoustical materials in them now.
They make amps with speaker level inputs. Or get separate speaker level to line out converters if you want.
