Is everyone else also hearing a quiet click when the gas pedal is pressed down a tiny bit in a '16 or '17? Seems like it's probably a switch but I don't remember hearing it before.

I'm having the same sound in my 2018 Camry Hybrid. I took it to the dealer, along with a recording I made of the sound, and they forwarded the recording along to Toyota. The verdict came back as "the sound is normal," but I really have a hard time believing that the engineers at Toyota would design such a distractingly loud switch for the accelerator. That, along with my creaking brakes, make for a disappointingly noisy car.

    Yes the engineers are bored.

Question: Is the sound you are hearing coming from you accelerator the Hill Brake Lock disengaging (or whatever it's called)?

The sound I was hearing in my 2017 Prius Two was coming from the brake pedal whenever it was moved side to side. I fixed it (hopefully permanently) by just randomly tweaking all of the various physical connections to the brake pedal. I stuck a screwdriver up there near the pedal and I was just was slightly bending any metal I could find

It's great that you were able to find a solution, albeit a homemade one! Do you still have the gas pedal click though? How was the volume of it compared to your brake pedal click? Mine is certainly louder, sounds like a switch that clicks over when the electric motor engages, and I can feel it through the pedal. With less than a thousand miles on my Camry Hybrid, I don't think that the gas pedal should click as it does. Also, my passengers can hear it, so it's definitely loud. I've written Toyota about it, along with the popping sound in my brakes. Hopefully, all will be revealed!

I think the gas pedal click is just the accelerator switch engaging. I hear it when the accelerator engages by the radar cruise control as well. It’s very quiet.

The darn car is so quiet otherwise, it's a shame they couldn't wrap the clicker in something sound absorbing. Oh well, I love everything else about it so maybe I can locate the sound and put some sound deadening material around it. I posted this link in another thread, but here is a video of the gas pedal click, as well as my break noise (which sounds like muffled pops coming from the floorboard). Anyone else have these sound coming from their car?

Those sounds are both different than what I had. Your brake pedal sounds like a switch, at least from the video. And my gas pedal sound is much quieter than yours.

    Hi all!

I'm from Singapore and apologies for bumping up this thread.

I collected my Lexus UX250h in May 2019 and noticed when I was driving, there's a clicking noise whenever I step the accelerator.

Upon googling, this issue seems to plague another UX250h owner in the States
and another Camry Hybrid owner I found here under the username "contravox" as with the video he posted above in this thread.

This problem seems to plague some of the newer Toyota/Lexus hybrids on the TNGA platform as I guess they use the same part from a defective supplier for some batches.

The noise can be produced with the following permutations met -
    - Car must be switched on.
    - Transmission must be in 'D', 'R', or 'N'.
    - When the car is switched off, depressing and releasing the brake pedal will reproduce the clicking noise.

I've tried diagnosing it myself and it was actually coming from the brake pedal assembly. I brought it to my dealer and did a diagnosis together with the technical manager. We both confirmed that the noise is coming from the brake stroke sensor. It is causing the clicking noise every time it receives an electrical signal (when the accelerator is depressed or brake pedal released). When using the dynamic cruise control and when the car accelerates and decelerates itself, the clicking noise can be heard too. The noise can even be 'felt' if you rest your feet on the brake pedal as the stroke lever 'jumps' when it clicks. We confirmed that it was the brake stroke sensor as upon unplugging the wiring harness from the stroke sensor, the clicking noises disappears completely; but of cause, all the error messages start popping up.

The dealer had mine replaced with a brand new sensor but sadly, the clicking noise was still there. I requested my sales consultant to allow me to retest the UX250h demo car (which I tried earlier prior to my purchase). Upon testing, I realised the clicking noise was there too, however, it was extremely soft to an extent where I can accept it or rather, acceptable for normal operations. You'll have to strain your ears pretty hard to hear it click. We (the technical manager and me) then agreed that the clicking noise is 'normal', but mine is clicking at an unacceptable volume. The diagnosis also confirms that it is an electro-mechanical noise and not a malfunction, just inconsistencies with the part throughout several UX hybrids. The pedal spring, brake light switch and, brake simulator and brake booster master assembly works just fine.

Nevertheless, my dealer have forwarded videos and sound recordings to TMAP (Toyota Motor Asia Pacific) - in this case for Singapore for further action. I've been further updated last week that TMC (Toyota Motor Corporation) is aware of my issue and are gathering information for the next course of action. I do hope there will be a proper solution for it as the clicking noise is driving me nuts otherwise for a good and silent car.

Have anyone else here faced this issue and/or whether their dealer have any solutions?

PS: I've attached a picture of the layout at the pedal assembly.
