When my 2015 Prius v started acting wonky with key not detected, or key in car I figured something electronic was starting to go out. The dealer was no help.Talking with a service engineer from one of the companies I work with suggested checking the ground on the aux battery as random errors are usually a bad ground. Sure enough the ground on the aux battery was loose. Tightened ground have had no more problems with key fob errors.

The Aux battery is the 12v? So you are talking about the large cable (wires) from the 12v to chassis? And no one touched the key fob battery at that time? I think for one thing that the key fob battery needs to be over 3v. I think the batteries new are about 3.3v and the no-name batteries are not that great.

OK, check and tighten ground strap/wire/cable whatever it is. Noted.

Ok - had the fob that would kill a new battery over night. This all started right after I got my car back from a body shop to do
some front end work [hit a deer]. I know he disconnected my 12V battery because all my station presets were gone from the radio.
Now, a few weeks ago I had my car in to a toyota dealer for a checkup and asked them if they coulld program another key
that I bought on ebay to the car. They couldn't - BUT - no more dead batteries!!!! Now I'm thinking - when the auto body guy reset
the system by disconnecting the battery, it gave some kind of command to the fob to send a signal all the time - thus wearing out my
batteries overnight. When the dealer tried to program my 2nd fob - they must've turned off that command and the fob quit eating
batteries [still on the same battery now for over 3 weeks]. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas on this???

[ and sorry - I see this thread is in Prius V - should really be in Gen 3 since I just have a regular 2011....]

I have some lithium batteries from my other matrix which are Energizer CR 2032
can I use these instead of the CR 1632 specified for fob replacement?
