Just to update. Today has been quite the day.. I went into my local Toyota Dealer. The finance woman had called with some "Great News!" So i sat at her desk and listened to her prattle on about how i was approved for a Lease through Toyota Finance Canada on a 2018 Prius Prime Upgrade... 60 Months @5.25% ......... I'm not sure why i initially agreed on a 60 month term. But over the course of the last month i've been chewing at the bit over the term. I'd in fact mentioned to them on a couple of occasions that i wasn't interested in a 60 month term. So here's the fun part. I have a Signed Purchase agreement with no VIN number on it for the car i'm "Supposedly getting shipped in from BC". The dealer has a $500 deposit from me for a car that still doesn't exist after a solid Month. And today i destroyed the Hopes and dreams of the Finance Dept and the salesman by informing them that i want the car on a 39 month lease or possibly but doubtful a 48 month lease. needless to say i was double teamed by them both. Informing me that i won't Qualify for a shorter lease, how they have been working solid over the last 2 weeks on getting my approval. How I'm making a huge mistake by not wanting a 60 month lease. And essentially telling me What to do with my money and how i should spend it. Too bad the sales manager wasn't in. Then i could have had 3 people on me.. Made to feel like a complete and total nice person.. Maybe i am. But before i stood up and walked out. I reminded them that "I am the Consumer, I choose what i do with my Money & What i say goes".... "I will not take this car on a 60 month lease and if i do not Qualify Then I'm not getting it..." to which i walked out with a Big fat Smile on my face. I'm 99% sure i am walking away from this Dealer. sorry for the venting.. it's been a stressful go this afternoon.

    Richard

You'd think they can reserve a car with a VIN. I mean, it's in their system.

Unless they "upgraded" in the last 10 years and lost the ability to find a car.

Sorry today wasn't the day but the patient get rewarded (with more money in your pocket).

They make a lot of money on financing. They hate it when you pay in cash. I went with a friend to buy a new car paying cash and we coudn't get a salesperson to give us the time of day after they learned that wouldn't need financing.

I think there's also profit with the extended warranty plan- even if they get you to sign up for it and cancel later. But I haven't figured out the details of that yet.

So today is Wednesday. Still haven't heard back from Toyota if I'm approved for a 39 month lease. I even told them I'd consider a 48 month lease.. so it's almost a full week since last Thursday.. I called today and left a voicemail asking whatz going on.. everyone is telling me to walk away yet I had such good luck with this dealer in the past ... I'm completely perplexed as to the lack of treatment I've been receiving.. the customer service is non existent..

Here's my theory: I've spent years in sales and companies often measure results on a calendar month. Your stressful afternoon when you received a full court press from the dealership was last Thursday- the last day of May.

Right now, we're just one week into the new month of June. It looks like they will see if they can find a buyer that will take the more profitable 60 month lease and they have until June 30th to find one. There's a very limited number of v's left and the dealers probably want to squeeze every last dollar of profit from them. If it's still available then, you'll probably find a more receptive sales/financing team.

So I got my prime .. bit of a weird situation.. the dealership tried to take advantage of everything on my lease agreement.. window etching I never asked for. Paint and corrosion protection... (3 year lease ?)... Needless to say I got all that worked out and walked away with my Prime and never to return to that dealership ever again.. thanks all for the input. IMG_20180613_155520.jpeg

    Congrats on your purchase!

And sorry about your experience... these types of the dealerships still exist, eh? Sigh.

Like i said, I'm done with that Dealer. (wondering if they bought google reviews...) Sad part is they are Located in The Same town as Toyota's Factory that spits out Tons of Corollas a day and the Lexus RX models. I really thought they'd be a tad more Professional. But lucky for me another Larger Dealer is located about 6km away from me in the next city. That dealership is a completely different universe. And I've already been to Book my First Service appointment. The Original Dealer could have given me free oil changes and i still would have passed.
