Real world EV only mileage expectations

You should have no problem with the 25 Miles as long as there are no major hills.. Hills and highway miles kills the EV range .

25+ miles when it's warm out is easy to do, no hypermiling needed. It's better in town, but even I get close to 30 miles EV and most of my drive is rural highway. (though I do usually save my EV range for the slowest spots, and my commute is at least 75 miles a day, so definitely outside EV range)

That stop and go 45mph is probably the sweet spot and you should get better EV range than I do.

Now winter is going to be different, and maybe someone else here with a similar climate can tell you what they get. I bet with you drive, it would be close to 25 miles though. The heater is a much bigger drain on our power than A/C.

Yeah, This is my second Prius and I'd rather not drive it on really bad roads if I can help it. The car before my my first Prius was a Subaru, and I miss it every time it gets bad. (which is about 2 times every 3 or 4 years, I also like where I live.

 

I live in hilly west PA. My usual drive is highways about 60-65mph. I get probably 27 miles on electric during the summer. Wintertime here is difficult to keep the engine off if you use the heaters or it's cold enough out(20'F or so). It's probably more like 20 miles on electric in the winter time, realistically.

The flatter road, warmer temperature, and slower you go, the better your electric range will be.

 

I've got average 35 mile per charge mostly on local roads until EV mode is disabled, which is around 20% battery capacity left? When you test drive, if the battery is low, you can hold the EV button till the display shows "Charge Mode", that way you can drive until the battery is charge enough to have EV mode enabled for your test drive. Or next time call ahead and have the sales rep fully charge that for you. I have the same experience, the sale reps are not prepared, they don't charge the vehicle before you test drive. You have to explicitly ask them

 

Yap, it's very realistic. You can easily go over 30 miles in warm season. Only problem you may encounter in your local is during dead of winter with sub zero weather, you may get less than 25 miles. Still overall average throughout year would be above 25 miles in my experience during last 11 months.

 

I have a Scangauge 2 attached to my '17 Prime. My battery charge will be about 14% when EV mode shuts off. It will then get fluctuate between 12-15% driving it in Hybrid mode. Fully charged is only 82%. It uses some algorithm to conserve future battery usability. If you are only doing in town at low MPH and minimal hills, then you will probably get great miles per kW. I commute 45 miles mainly interstate. I get about 25 miles on all electric. I usually use EV-Auto and let the computer decide when to use EV/Hybrid mode. It kicks in the ICE on larger hills.

 

the engine may also start in winter.

 

In southern California, I am easily getting 30+ miles per charge.

 

I’ve had my Prime Advanced since the end of April. Have around 3800 miles. I have a hilly local commute to the office, but have been able to achieve about 36.5 miles max a couple times. Usually in this warm climate in NY state now (finally), it’s between 32-35 miles. Waiting for the winter later to see how much the range decreases. Probably a 30-35% decrease depending on whether heater is turned in. For me A/C drains barely any battery. Our cars are super efficient that way. It’s amazing how carefully I Drive now trying to extend EV range as long as possible. I’ve added at least another 5-10 min on my trips to the office now. Lol.

 

You will easily exceed that 25-mile rating.

Around 25 miles during winter/summer and 30+ miles when no AC/heating required.

 

This is from yesterday morning. 35.7 miles estimated and I drove 39.9 actual EV miles. 84° at 6am, Yeah, it's been hot.

 

It is an Android app called "Hybrid Assistant".

I just connect my phone with a Bluetooth reader and hit record.

 

I have a 16 mile round trip commute that sounds similar to yours. About 5 miles is freeway but there’s always some sort of traffic, so I average right around 45mph then 60 for maybe 1 or 2 miles of that drive. Going to work is downhill and going home is uphill in the suburban areas. I haven’t had to use AC yet (had the car for a month) and my ev range has consistently been around 27-30 miles.

Edit: might also be worth to mention that I have a heavy foot, and I could probably improve my ev range even further if I tried to drive more effeciently
