Thanks for waking me up from a disastrously expensive Tesla wet dream.

As far the expense goes, EVs are quite affordable on the secondary (used) market. Everyone that wanted an EV had no choice other than to buy new, so there's no real secondary market for the cars. The exception is Tesla, I believe their buying up all the used Tesla's, much like Lexus did when the launched in the US to guarantee resale values.

Good catch. I misspoked. I double checked the $12,000 for some body work that was needed on somebody’s Tesla quarter panel.

Here is what was posted on the TFT cost on the Tesla site. Not $12,000 though but still not cheap.

Replacing a MFD on a gen2 Prius wasn't cheap when the cars were new either.
Not that many body shops out there that can work on aluminum. With over a million aluminum body F150s on the road already, that will change.

My Avalon has a 550 mile range and I can fill it up in 5 minutes, and I'm not killing birds on a wind farm or using up natural gas or in some cases coal....

    This is what I like...

The Tesla's performance is so "Non-Compromise", so impressive, that even the usual crowd of drenched in gasoline and motor oil, die hard gear heads have to admire it.

I can't afford a Tesla, either in purchase, or maintenance but I admire what Elon Musk and Tesla has done.

I haven't really seen any vehicle since the early days of Prius, that I really felt was an exciting product, but Tesla is an exciting product.

No, you are just helping in the burning of petroleum that will take more energy and cost to get into your gas tank over time. For a majority of the US population, a BEV emits less CO2 than even a hybrid.

If you are truly concerned about bird deaths, you'll paint over all your home's windows, and start trapping feral cats. The wind farm notorious for bird deaths is old. It has older mills that spun their blades at a faster rate than current models, and was sited along a major migration route. We now know better.

More birds are probably dying in the polluted waste water ponds from mining tar sands than from a modern wind farm. Hell, the mining for detergents in our hand soaps, shampoos, and all our cleaners results in brine lakes that kill birds. So, you need to stop bathing.

It was the bit about birds that triggered me. There is a cost of some type for our existing. You can reduce it, but not eliminate it.
