Well today i experienced a first. I had a gen3 prius an lexus ct and now a prime advanced. I was waiting to get out of a whole foods parking lot when a giant white pickup truck let me go...i thought that was nice and waved a thank you. I was very very wrong. The pickup pulls up right behind me beeping and flashing his lights. He continued to stay inches away beeping and flashing. It took a great deal of self cotrol not to give what he wanted..a reaction or to pull over. I turned off the road and took another way home. He didnt follow. Really pisses me off buti guess sometimes we have to deal with these types

Stuff like this happens everyday all over the world. Have had nearly the same situation happened to me on a couple occasions. Heck, I can confess myself to letting someone out, getting flipped off by them because I didn't do it in timely enough manner I suppose - so yeah, my front grill on their rear bumper for as long as I could maintain it. Bright lights and all.

Idiots on both sides I suppose.

Although not good for the ego, it's always best to take the high road, and extricate yourself tout de suite. You 110% did the correct thing--get away from them ASAP. You may not feel like it was the right thing, but it most certainly was the correct thing to do.

Out here in Kentucky we just keep a 9mm stuck in the glove compartment (which, incidentally doesn't qualify as being concealed, go figure). Don't need to worry about nut jobs quite so much. Everyone knows everyone else is armed so it tends to keep people in check.

Wait hang on... so you don't positively know why they were trying to get your attention?

I mean, I wasn't there or anything but it seems like you're reading a lot into this. What if you'd left a bag of asparagus on the roof?

Probably one of those coal burning trucks. They hate people trying to keep the environment clean and air quality good. I hope you did not give him the secret Prius wave when he let you go in front of him.

You do have a point here. I've never encountered Prius haters like that, and I just hope people are not that bad just because of the car we drive. Yeah, I've done that. A cup of coffee on top of the roof.

Road rage takes many forms and it sound like it was your turn. Becoming boring usually works by letting the car coast down to a slower speed. But I once had a case on I-66 where I simply waited until it was almost too late to take an exit and darted off.

Do be careful as we had a case of road rage that resulted in a fatal shooting near Birmingham:

Put an NRA sticker on your Prius Prime. It will confuse them.

I was once driving down the highway and a guy in a big moving truck threw a full iced coffee container onto my windshield as I passed them. I know he meant it because I saw him raise the cup as I approached so I slowed down to make sure he wasn't tossing it out the window. He pulled it back in, I went to pass and out flew the cup. The 3 of them in the cab thought it was hilarious and I just drove away. Not worth getting arrested over. I just hope karma gets them back someday.

ill tell you my prime has calmed me down soooooo much. i used to be a VERY aggressive driver with a hairline trigger for road rage. if not for the love of my prime and the carbon fiber hatch, if that donkey had done that to me, i would have slammed on my brakes HARD. "well officer, i had to slam on my brakes to keep from hitting a jaywalker." at least here in CA the truck would have to pay for everything as it would be his fault for tailgating. perhaps it's not worth it any more. it sucks getting old.

Well i dont think if i had a bag on asparagus on the roof he would have been giving me the finger. Unless he was pointing at it. I also dont think staying a foot away from my bumper would be necessary. This was a very angry person.

I grew up on the streets of brooklyn and you never let anyone disrespect you like that. But i am older and wiser and i have no disire to throw my life away. This happened in a liberal suburb of boston where a prius is a really common sight. I guess this person is tired of us people who like to conserve resources.

Or what you thought was him letting you go was him actually distracted in some manner, and then he thought you cut him off.

I once came up behind a car going slower in the left lane of a four lane highway. At first, I thought the couple were having a very animated fight in the car, but when I tried to pass on the right of them, and several cars had already done so, they sped up.

Your car may or may not be what triggered this guy. You will never know, and your time is better spent elsewhere than pondering what put such people over the edge.

Stay calm and courteous. Anger feeds anger, just as calm extinguishes rage. More frequently than not, ignoring nonviolent rage will provide the best opportunity for you to spend a comfortable and relaxed evening with loved-ones.

It's funny how often I'll change lanes left so I can pass somebody going slower than I want to, and then be stuck there for a mile and a half while everybody coming up behind faster petulantly dives around me to the right instead of leaving me any opening to return to that lane. All muttering to themselves, I'm sure, "slowpoke Prius in the ding-binged left lane...."
