What's the difference between a WiFI OBD and Bluetooth?

I would think a WiFi one would need a WiFi network nearby to work? Or is it some internal WiFi in the device you connect to?

Seems Bluetooth would work anywhere? Would love to hear.

And are there any good pics or videos showing how/where we connect these in our Prius Primes?

    Thanks!

My wifi adapter makes its own network.

Thanks Jerry! And yes, I found YouTube videos of where the port is (just above the parking break).

My adapter arrives soon - can't wait to disable the reverse beep! (and see what other trouble I can get into! LOL)

Just a follow up... I got the ELM327 Wifi OBDII Scanner off Amazon for $15.99 since the Carista app said "which adapter do you have" and listed both theirs ($39.99) and the ELM327 Wifi.

Worked like a champ! No more reverse beep, and no more passenger seatbelt warning beeps when there's a box in the seat. yay!

    iOS or Android?
Torque Pro is about the best on Android.
    Or Engine Link on iOS.

Engine Link isn't free, but it's cheap. Not sure about Torque Pro. Both will require custom PIDs. I don't know if they are available yet for Gen 4.

Another possibility is Carista. Also not free. You rent it which I hate, but I'm thinking of giving it a try and if I really like it, I'll just rent it for special occasions.

I have both devices, not to be cheap but $39.99 carista for a few clicks for sear belt and back up beeps is ridiculous. Darn just noticed the Bluetooth app is free

Be sure to cancel before the one free month is over or they will automatically renew you for one year.

I forgot to mention that. Thanks.

 Not nice at all! But all too common of a practice.

If there's an option to use obd2 to overwrite navigation settings to play movies while driving for passengers to watch then I will buy carista ...

Can carista feed real time tire pressures from TMPS while driving? If not which OBDII adapter and app can I use for that purpose?

I got a $10 Bluetooth OBD II to work with the Carista app, then selected "1 week free trial" and got it to work! Immediately discontinued the free trial. Still works. 2014 Prius Two and Android phone.

Prius Tweak app would not work for me no matter what I tried...

Carista cannot monitor live tire pressures but the free app Tire Assistant from the makers of Hybrid Assistant can. Unfortunately the app has a safety feature that makes it stop working when the vehicle is moving. While it only lists their supported OBD2 adapter, I got it to work with a cheap generic ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 adapter.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going with ScanTool 427201 OBDLink LX Bluetooth, so I can use Hybrid Assistant app. Cheap generic ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 adapter may also work with Hybrid Assistant App, but they recommend ScanTool 427201 OBDLink LX, and it's only $30 difference.

Thanks. I thought about that option too. Although Scangauge2 is very powerful tool, it is too pricey for this purpose. I simply want to monitor real time tire pressure without using physical tire pressure gauge.

Once you get your OBDLink LX, can you run a couple tests for me? Hybrid Assistant shows BAD OBD when used with my ELM327 v1.4 adapter. I want to see what data you get with the OBDLink LX

Also, I tested my adapter with ELM327 Identifier and it's confirmed to be v1.4 which is the minimum needed for Carista advanced features to work. Does the OBDLink LX show v1.4 or higher when tested? ELM327 Identifier - Apps on Google Play
