I bought a 2018 Prius Prime on March 8th, 2018. I've kept my old '04 Prius with 213,000 miles. The battery was overhauled by a local tech training center for a $5.00 registration fee. I hope to have the students adjust the mechanical valves, too. Since the 14 year old car has no real value, I'll hang onto this car that still gets high 40's or low 50's gas mileage. I do my own maintenance and change the oil once a year with a high quality 25,000-mile synthetic oil. My Toyota Tacoma will see a lot of quiet days in the garage!

I've been reading about Prii for about 5 years now and this is the FIRST time I've seen anybody claim that any of them have adjustable valves. Are you sure about that ??
My understanding is that in Gen 2, the entire bucket had to be removed, and that means the Cam and Cam Chain have to be removed, then you replace 16 buckets with new buckets of the right thickness. As a result, no one really ever did. valve lifters/valve clearance adjustment | PriusChat all of the pic have aged out.

One of my sons is driving my 2004 Prius with over 170,000 miles on it, and he has had to do no repairs except a new 12-volt battery since he bought it from me in 2011. My step-daughter is driving my 2007 Prius (bought used by me in 2011) with over 165,000 miles on it, and will possibly have to replace the catalytic converter (which I understand means replacing the whole exhaust system) if the check engine light is still coming on when it is due for our state's emissions/safety inspection at the end of the year. But it may turn out that the problem is only one of the O2 sensors. It was a Toyota dealership that told me it was the catalytic converter. I am not sure I trust them because we pulled up a code for an O2 sensor problem. Anyhow, even if she has to pay the dealer $2,500 to replace the whole exhaust system, the car is worth a lot more than the $3,000 I charged her. My other son just sold his 2008 Prius to his dad. (That son bought a 2017 Prime after he drove mine.) That 2008 Prius never needed any replacement parts except a 12-volt battery, and I expect it will last several more years without needing anything else.

The catalytic converter went bad in my 2nd generation Prius at about 80,000 miles and it 210000 miles it was still going strong with the same bad catalytic converter
ok here is a list of what has failed on my 2008 prius with 164,000 miles.. brake accuator 3 12 volt optimas rebuilt the traction battery twice and its getting weak again JBL amp the amp in the antenna on the roof the speedo cluster (car would not shut off) front wheel bearings and 2 sets of front brake pads starting to burn oil between changes YES AVOID GEN 2's AND EARLY GEN 3's
Beach Bum that's weird that you had to replace the wheel bearings. Any reason that you can think of why yours went bad so early?
I've had to have the right front bearing replaced twice and the front left once on my 09. Disappointing quality and quite expensive, and I'm only approaching 120K.
