My 2012 V started occasionally making an extremely load banging in the right rear. Toyota replaced the at its and shocks but it still occurs. It is very intermittent and sometimes is one loud bang and sometimes multiple quick bangs for a couple of seconds. I have had it to two Toyota dealers and one independant mechanic and no one seems to be able to find the cause. Any ideas?
Occurs very occasionally when hitting small bumps. Not so much on bigger bumps. Very intermittent and follows no pattern. Sounds like something is coming through the rear floorboard or trunk area. Only occurs when moving and usually at slower speed. Can occur when turning as well.
I had a similar issue with my previous vehicle that turned out to be the rear sway bar end links. They were still attached, but the bushings were busted so they and the sway bar itself would occasionally clang around when going over small bumps while turning, going into the driveway, etc... It wasn't dangerous at the time but the noise was definitely unexpected and startling.
You've pulled the tire or been underneath and seen bump stops intact and nothing hanging? Anything loose in the spare tire well? Is the headlight self-leveling mechanism free to move?
Thanks! I was hoping both the Toyota dealers checked but I wouldnt swear to that. Thanks! I'm reasonably sure the dealer checked. Thanks That may be worth a look. I told the dealer what I heard and would hope they checked. I did not pull the sare but I will. Thanks!
