Not surprised at all... The Prime is a good vehicle with affordable pricing, even without the federal incentive.

Us folks down under would continue to dream about owning one of these. However, Hyundai is about to start selling the Ioniq with a plug, this may force Toyota to change its tune, hopefully sooner rather than later.

the headline is misleading, as most sales are 2017's.

    wow, hate tesla much?

and prime rebate just went to $5,000. in the northeast. that should boost even more sales.

Toyota has always been the leader and always will be. No one can match Toyota or has the funds to try. This author may be bias against Tesla, but that does not change the facts. Tesla's car for the masses is far from true.

    1. The Prius Prime is #2 behind the Tesla Model 3.
    2. Prime and Model 3 appeal to different customers.

Hmmm.... I must have overslept. When did Toyota remove ICE from the Prius?

EV... okay. The answer should be ZERO.

These are great figures for the Prime, but the numbers are inflated because of all the heavily discounted 2017 Primes that were sold (as @bisco said).

Show me numbers like this on 2018's that aren't incentive laden and I would say Toyota is a solid player. The reality from the numbers is Toyota can't move inventory anywhere but on the west coast without offering heavy incentives. A great problem for those of us in the market for one, but not a sustainable business model.

    True...
Chevy Volt was included, so both were "EVed" in the article...

Insideev counts anything with a J1772 plug as an EV. In theory this includes some 'green-wash' vehicles like the 'Mercedes-Benz GLE550e 4matic' with 69 kWh/100 mi and 4.8 gal (premium)/100 mi.

Similar complaints about under-priced Teslas could be made given the last quarterly report (or buzz from it.) The quarter-to-quarter complainers and 'short' sellers are throwing a tantrum about Musk's handling of the report. This is the first time I'm thinking about buying Tesla stock BUT I only buy stock in a company that makes a product I would buy or that has the uncommon good sense to hire me.

Reply doesn't seem to be working on that site. Do they only allow posting for the first day or two? This is what I attempted to add:

    >> It cannot complete the EPA test cycles under electric power only...

You are clearly mixed up information about generations. That was the case for the previous (2012-2015) but most definitely is not for the current (2017-)

It was the hard-acceleration segment of the EPA measure that had triggered the engine to start in the original model. Toyota has since enhanced the design to allow you to accelerate all the way to 84 mph with the pedal to the floor entirely using only electricity.

I would add there is some change(s) in the control laws under 50F (10C) that appears to relate to the earlier control laws. These are rare but reproducible.

NOTE: The graph shows 08/01/2017 was the last time the Volt and Prime were equal. Use reply to see the graph.

Also note that the Volt is getting a ton of cash on the hood too, now. A friend managed to get a 2018 Volt for... $28k before tax incentives, I think it was?

Is there a way to check Volt inventory?

It wouldn't hurt to include that you are on the East coast and there are places with 2017 inventory... quite different from here in the middle of the country.

The irony is some are paying a couple of hundred dollars for a plane ticket to buy one (as I raise my hand.)

Toyota could do some good by offering to transport unsold, Prime inventory to the fly-over states with an ad hoc, Toyota special. Find a cooperative dealer and do a week long 'tent sale.'

in another thread, some flyover state members are reporting 2018 inventory showing up, with no credits or discounts, and sales people reporting brisk sales.

idk what the problem is here in the northeast, will be interesting to see if there are any credits on the '18.
