Can anyone recommend a Brake Shoe Hold Down Spring Driver Tool ? Obviously, I'm not crazy about blindly ordering SST 09718-00010.
You can get them at most auto parts stores. Probly Harbor freight too. I never use them tho, I grab onto the spring retainer top with a vice grips, push in in to compress the spring, and give it a twist.
It’s been replaced with 09718-00011, illustrated and sold here for $17: https://toyota.service-solutions.com/en-US/Pages/ItemDetail.aspx?SKU=09718-00011 PartSouq.com has a clear photograph of one, too.
Will try to keep this somewhat on topic and related. Is there a proper tool for the high tension spring that holds the two (2) shoes together? Been using a pair of vise-grips when available.
The Repair Manual (available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com) says to use SST 09703-30011, the Brake Shoe Return Spring Tool Set, sold here for $35.65: https://toyota.service-solutions.com/en-US/Pages/ItemDetail.aspx?itemVID=131982 According to the Component Parts chapter (PDF) of the 2013 Special Service Tool List book, page 35, the set consists of the Bar, 09703-03010, and the Wrench, 09703-03020, not sold separately in the U.S.; I believe the third item in the illustration is a case.
