I really hope they don't do this. I love the current design and much prefer it over the PHEV version

Looks like they had some left over in the parts bin from Gen 2 ...

Actually, I think they are trying for the Mirai look like on the Prime but a little smaller.
IIRC, those front side vents on the Mirai are a functional part of the drive system.

Use google to search, say "priuschat" plus your topic. This site's search function is poor. Also buggy, first attempt will show nothing, but repeat search, and you get all sorts of results.

The fuel cell needs to breath air for oxygen, but I bet actual openings to those side vents are like the one on most cars' grill; smaller than they appear.

I did a thread comparing the Gen 4, Prime, PiP and Prius v.

You can see that the Prime is slightly longer than the Prius v but the wheelbase is the same as the regular Prius while the 3" longer wheelbase of the v affords it more interior legroom.

Yep our Prius v (wagon) has a ton of room in the back. I also like the fact the rear seats slide forward and back.

The only other car of ours that has more room (or seems to anyway) is our Hyundai Sonata...which has a huge amount of room in the back.

And the Sonata is a mid-size sedan!

Im actually really excited for this, but i am wondering tho.......... The new Auris (in US thats the corolla/corolla iM) is supposed to get a new hybrid drive train with a 2L instead of 1.8L, why is the current generation`s-face lift prius sticking with the 1.8?

I do like the colours. Not taken by the new tail lights - though it would be good to see them switched on, and at night.

Not sure that Corolla is getting the 2l - local press says "A hybrid model will again feature [in Corolla], using the 1.8-litre system from the Prius – rather than the 2.0-litre Toyota Hybrid System II".

If Corolla does get the 2l, might be overseas, as that was an Australian press report. Also, the Corolla market is different - PRIUS is the technology/emissions/efficiency flagship for TOYOTA - Corolla is just a commuter car.

well, i guess its different in AU and US then... cause here in Norway the Auris sells better then the prius, there isnt even any Prius`s out on the showroom floor on toyota dealerships anymore. And it says on toyota.no that the norwegian Auris will get the new 2.0L hybrid system. The reason the auris might get it first is cause its coming as a new generation, while the prius only gets a face lift that will last for the next 3 years. It does say the face lift prius will get a improved 1.8L hybrid system with better fuel injection.
Anyways, i am excited to see it.

Toyota said at the presentation that every important hybrid of their range will get the 2.0 as an option starting with the Auris.
Prius should be even the most important!

The 1.8 seems fine to me.

It likely won't happen until the gen5 Prius. Assuming nothing happens to the factory making the 1.8L.

Nothing wrong with it, but it is an older design, and not apart of the TNGA family. The 2.5L in the Camry is, and is 41% thermally efficient to the 1.8L's 40%. The 2.0 likely matches the 2.5 in that regard. The 1.8 is getting the port/direct injection the newer engines have with the midcycle refresh. That should improve performance and efficiency a bit.

I'm pretty clueless, but have heard direct injection injectors can foul more. We already have the 3rd gen EGR debacle, maybe direct injection is next, lol. Still, thanks for the info.

They could, but improvements since direct injection was first developed should make it less likely to happen. The real concern to regulators and the auto makers is that these engines emit more particles.

Toyota's solution is to use a both port and direct injection on the same engine; that is what the DS4 injection is. The idea is to use port injection under running conditions in which the particle amount increases. It should also mean even less fouling of of the direct injectors.
