Can't make up my mind. ChargePont or JuiceBox

Don't they both (on their websites) have relatively decent white sheets?

i have a juicebox and have to rely on there cloud for any type of monitoring. it only spits out data to their cloud and does not have a website "built in" as i prefer. just google "revolv" and you'll see why i hate montoring something in the cloud.

 

I recently picked up an 80amp (100amp breaker) new wall charger (future proof) from ebay. $300. Installed it myself. I don't understand how the 40 amp versions of chargepoint or Juicebox go in the $500+ range (w/out installation) . Are there great deals on those 2 models also?

 

The JuiceBox 40's price changes all the time. Monitor their home page for a while and you might see up to $60 off. I bought one of their 40's for $100 off, just prior to the UL spec. being given, added a locking bracket and asked for a slightly shorter cord (18 vs. 24). Since then, I'll bet I've seen the prices change a half dozen times,

Another plus going for the JB is the size. It doesn't take up very much space, if that is a consideration. Other units, like the cheaper Siemens is just gigantic. BTW, the ChargePoint is a very nice compact unit from what I've read. I just didn't like the price for the entire package at the time.

 

I have had the juice box and it works great. It gives me the time start , time end,. Internet lost, internet back on, total charge, daily past record. Money saved. You can time the charge just like the Advanced Prime. I wish it had a nice place for the 24' cord and a better place for the charger handle

Charge time is a function of your vehicle, assuming that your EVSE can provide as much current as your vehicle requests. In the case of the Prime, this is about 15 amperes at 240 volts, so having an EVSE and wiring with greater capacity is useful only insofar as you someday may acquire a different vehicle with greater demands.

Basically, all EVSE units just provide a connection between the charging circuit within your vehicle and your house wiring (mains). Their electronics handle hand-shaking with your vehicle and safety concerns like ground fault protection.

As you know, some EVSE units can provide you with data about charge times, duration and power consumed. Times are only important if your electric utility has differential rates based upon time-of-day. And the Prime can control its own charging schedule.

Power consumption can be monitored by the EVSE or by using an inexpensive accessory kWh meter wired into the circuit supplying the EVSE. (Some meters have auxiliary TTL outputs which can be connected to a Raspberry Pi, Arduino or other computer if you want to do some creative programming.)

Level 2 EVSE hardware has become a commodity where manufacturers try to differentiate themselves by providing various interesting, but functionally unnecessary, features. It's up to you to decide what bells and whistles please you and what you're willing to pay for those features.

And, of course, data is intrinsically interesting -- but it's only useful if it provides something upon which you can base decisions about how you're using your vehicle.

JuiceBox Pro 40 now available at Costco for $549.99

 

That's great! And $30 less than at eMotorWerks site. I had to search for it by name though. It wasn't in the automotive section under "chargers." It was under the Car Electronics section, which also makes sense. Do watch the prices on the JB40 series though. At the Mfgr's site the prices change frequently.

 

I search Costco using evse and both the JuiceBox and Siemens pop up

 

^ Right. After not finding it in "Chargers" in the Auto section, next thing I did was to search "JuiceBox" and there it was in Electronics.
