I have a 2007 prius with 136k miles on it. Recently on the a 200 mile trip the check engine light and brake system failure light came on. I turned around and bought a new pump and replaced it. Then a week later tried to make the same trip again, and the same thing happens, with a brand new pump, it does give the same code p0a93. My question is this a common occurrence? What should I check? Also, why would the brake system failure light come on as well?
Open up the coolant reservoir cap and look to see if there's any movement in the fluid. When the car is in ready mode, there should be movement if the pump is working.
My 2007 Touring model had the inverter cooling pump installed under the campaign in 2010. The replacement failed on the road yesterday and it cost me $511 to get it fixed at a Kansas City area dealership. I tried to get Toyota to accept responsibility but they said the new pump had only a one year warranty and I had 8 years on the pump. So, to date and after 226,000 miles I have had to pay for some coil packs and the pump. That's it after 11 years of hard service. This is a great car company.
They are great little cars for what they are. 11 years is really pretty good. It provided service for less than $10/year. The inverter pumps are known failure points on these and the 3rd gens. even the "new" ones. I just consider them a service part and build their replacement into my preventative maintenance schedule. Like most things they never break in your driveway or garage.
For your maintenance schedule, have you made a decision on how often to replace the pump, such as "every 5 years or 50k miles", etc. I see that the pump is available for around $60 from Amazon. iPhone ?
