The model 3 production is still lagging and they are already onto their next product? That's quite interesting.. interesting to see if they can keep this level of progress going.

Elon Musk is doing his illusionist trick again. Make investors and customersee on waiting list forget their complaints with new oohs and aahs.

I expect him to show his Tucker like prototype in August or September.

The Y will be built upon the Model 3's platform, like the S and X using the same, so much of the design work has already been done.
Yet Tesla hasn't confirmed this release date.

the article says tesla is getting supplier information. nothing about musk promoting model y. tesla declined to comment.
it's a tidbit that let's you know that they are in planning stages. you have to start somewhere.
not sure of the cause for antipathy?

I suspect the Tesla ‘short’ sellers.

The market the Y goes into is huge with the shift in buying of SUVs. Musk has a lot of SUVs and crossovers to benchmark to get it right, and there is no hard part like falcon doors or strange seats. The tough parts - battery pack, D (dual motors or all wheel drive), autopilot, volume suppliers, should all be working well and locked in by the end of this year. It normally takes 2 years from requirements to good volume quality parts from a supplier in automotive, which is one reason for the 5 year update cycle. If they are doing this now, I wouldn't expect high volume until q1 2020. Getting some units out in 2019 would be great.

Musk did say they made mistakes on the model X design. It was more than just the falcon doors. Now is a good time to work with auto parts manufactures on design for manufacturing of the Y. I expect they will change a great deal from the model 3 to slot into an a place to grab sales from both the low end high volume small SUV segment (rav4, cr-v, escape, equinox, rogue, etc) and the compact luxury SUV segment (X3, Q5, NX, etc).

The other question is when will the second factory open. Tesla's Fremont factory probably can not produce all the volume for S, X, 3, and Y let alone add the semi and roadster. Probably at least a assembly plant in china would make the most sense.

The i-Pace is coming and looks to be a serious competition.

i pace is something that may beat the tesla model X, It won't really compete against the Y. The jaguar is supposed to start at $87K, while the model Y will probably start at less than half of that price.

Model 3 production halted (again) for 5 days to reconfigure. Musk is now claiming 6,000 model 3's per week, just a few months from now, and then says maybe 5,000 is a more realistic number. I guess that was to pump the stock up from its doldrums. TSLA is down again today, following the 6,000 number estimate. Guess that Jedi trick is starting to become irrelevant.

Still hoping he can turn the numbers, the stock and the investor mood around to the positive. "Don't ever bet against Musk" has been true for a decade now.

I don't think many will complain if its late. It is due in the second half of the year, which means it's late if they don't deliver until after Christmas. I don't think many will care. Its good that jaguar is making this small luxury electric CUV, but it doesn't mean much for the market. Jaguar is part of tata group, they need to get electrified (phev and bev) right, they don't really need it fast.

From quickly reading the mini-reviews people seem to like the car.

Not sure what you are saying here. Stock was down today, probably as part of a rotation out of it and news yesterday of the 5 day rework of manufacturing for the 3. Really don't think that is actually "bad" news at all about tesla manufacturing. Bad news was out in december and Q1. After hours the stock is up, as tesla reinterated they will probably get to 5000/week in july - that's I guess what you call mind tricks. That probably means the second line needs to be up, and each able to really pump out 3000 (or 6K total), to average 5K with rework and periodic down time. From my last post, it probably means more people, less automation in some area.

This is production "hell" not star wars. Don't think the stock price matters that much unless it goes so low that tesla can't raise more money.

That wasn't news until after the stock market closed Tuesday. Today's 3%+ movement is due to the email.

My guess is that you would have to get on the waiting list on day one to get it by the end of 2020, even that could be a long shot.
