I have been shopping around here in Kentucky and they are not budging any more than $800 off the invoice for the 2018 Prime Advanced. So I am looking at close to $34,000. There are no 2017 models around me here but I did get a price very similar to yours from a dealer in Baltimore, MD. In my opinion the deal you mentioned is a good deal.

IRS form 8936 states - for "personal use", you only get $2500.So is it really not $4502 then?. Can some one confirm from what they filed?.

I have a quote for $26,400 for a 2017 Premium. (Titanium Glow) and dealer has only 6 17's left in their lot and rest all 2018's. I liked grey better, but that costs (28,000). Yesterday, I test drove the Prime for the first time. Its incredible for a "science experiment" vehicle as some may call it. I have driven my friend's 2011 prius before and have always loved prius for its fuel sipping tendencies. I think, Prime has come a long way from that 2011 model. Very smooth acceleration, and there is a punch off the start line with no lag whatsoever. I must say, I really really love the car. I think this is a sane balance between Enviro - Comfort - Low cost maintenance and ops.

If cost alone were the only thing, I would just keep burning gallons on my old accord and crv. I feel really bad for burning a gallon of gas. My daily RT commute is about 60 miles currently. So, I might be able to recover some costs, without being guilty of burning Gallons and being a nasty polluter.

Thinking of going in today to put a deposit. Any advice anyone?

Hi Karthik, I think if you read the 2017 form 8936 carefully, line 18 skips the $2500 unless it is used for business or has two wheels. At least that is the way my tax software dealt with it.

I love my Prius Prime so much I am buying another! I actually found it is cheaper (TCO) to buy a second than to keep my 2010 for another 5 years. In fact, I calculated that it is cheaper per mile than my bicycle. I'm not any sort of rabid environmentalist, but as an engineer I love efficiency. And low cost. There are a few downsides (no rear wiper, no spare tire, only 4 seats, no volume knob) but the upsides are amazing (extremely high efficiency in both electric or gas modes, super cheap to run, Fed Tax credit, drive to work every day in all-electric but still drive across the country only stopping for sleep and 5 fill ups).

I just put down a deposit on a second Prime and we are picking it up on Tuesday. But we actually bought it on the East Coast to take advantage of the much higher Toyota incentives ($4500 off if you don't use Toyota financing) and willingness of dealers to deal in order to get rid of the huge overstock 2017 Prius cars over there. I'll put the deal here after we finish, but it will be quite worth the trip for us to pick it up. We are getting an Advanced for less than you are getting the Premium.

Not sure where you are in Oregon, nor how far you can travel, but you might check some of the more remote dealers for better deals. We bought two Prii from Bill Graffius at Lum's Toyota in Astoria in the past, and my uncle bought one there as well.

I am curious, I have been pricing Prius Prime Advanced cars up in the North East and one dealer I spoke to said that I had to come to the dealership to close the deal. Has anyone here bought a Prius out of state by just wiring the dealership the cash and signing the documents by mail? I was thinking about having the car transported to Kentucky and avoiding a plane flight and a drive back home. One dealer said it was in their Toyota franchise agreement that I had to come I. Person to buy the car.

I bought my Prime Advanced without leaving my house, everything done by email. Wire-transferred money to the dealership and they sent the documents overnight for me to sign. Had the car shipped by a transport company then I went to DMV near me to get the Title and Tag.

That is was I was thinking. It kind of surprised me when the salesman said I had to come in person.

Salespeople like to negotiate in their own territory and they can watch your body language so they can make a good deal (for them), and of course you'll need to pass the last test with their "finance adviser".

Yes, I find negotiating in person to be excruciatingly painful. Mainly since I am not a verbal person as much as analytical. When I ask a question, I want a real answer, not a vague generality or promise. Whereas salespeople think a sale is based only on trust and that trust is obtained by blabbing. So I try to do as much as possible via email where I can lay out all my questions and not get a run around. The downside is that dealers often seem to feel that Internet buyers are not serious, and often put really inexperienced people in their internet department, making it hard to get good answers.

We considered that, but there was some wrinkle from our insurance company that coverage wasn't effective until we personally took delivery. Besides my wife likes road trips...

Thank you PriusPostus2. Yes, I realized I misread that part. Good to know that PHEV credit will sweeten the deal. Buying a second prime should be just as exciting as first one. I see NJ area has 4500 off.

But I made a quick move this morning and picked it up from "Ron Tonkin" - Portland. Final offer was OTD $26,000 (incl 0.5% Oregon sales tax) for a 2017 Premium Titanium Glow (29 miles on Odo). With all weather mats and door guards (and full tank of gas!, pun intended). This may not be the best deal, but certainly a good one as other dealers (including Costco and Truecar dealerships did not match this price). if you are picking up Advanced for 26k to 27k, I would say that's an incredible deal, don't pass. Good luck with your shopping and keep us posted.

Seeing the new Toyota Corolla Hatchback got me feeling a little sad, because it looks a lot cooler and thinking to myself I should have waited until that came out but....

When I did my taxes yesterday, it was SOOOOOO worth it getting the Prius Prime seeing that $4502 credit being refunded to me!!!

Now is when it finally sunk in that I just paid $22,500 for a $27,000 MSRP car and it feels great. This is not even considering the college credit and 0% finance added on. So I paid just above $21,000 for this brand new plug in hybrid. Its a steal.

I was a little worried I might not get it because some people said the credit will only offset any taxes owed, but that is NOT true! I was already getting a refund credit this year before the electric credit was applied, it was great to see the car credit added on to it fully.

If anyone is still on the edge of buying one should definitely get it! (the toyota website still says the federal credit is still in affect for the Prius Prime, but might want to verify that)

Here is an article on the tax credit and when it ends. I thought I would share it here in this thread.

When do electric-car tax credits expire? (updated for 2018)

PriusPostus2 stated "I love my Prius Prime so much I am buying another!" As another engineer, I have to say
imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

    - proud owner of two 2017 Prius Prime Advance (one bought in Dec 2016 for my 2017 taxes and one bought around August 2017 for my filing tomorrow). Already sold my 2010 Prius Solar. Waiting to see if 2019 model will offer the solar sunroof, may go for that in time for the 2019 taxes

Wow. Sounds like a great price to be able to get that much of a dealer discount on top of the Toyota rebate
