    Hey everyone!

I'm going to be purchasing a Prius v soon. I've always been interested in the car and I finally took one for a test drive today.

I was sitting around playing with the features of the Three / Five non-ATP display audio with navigation / Entune Apps, and there was some weirdness going on...

I wanted to check out how my iPhone 7's music sounded through the stereo. So, I did what any normal person would do and plugged in my Apple lightning-USB cable. I got a quick vibration indicating that charging was happening, but when I went to select it as a source in the audio menu, it wouldn't show up. My phone display showed that I needed to download the Entune app, but I really couldn't use it as I don't actually own a Toyota (yet). Bluetooth streaming works completely fine, though without album artwork when played through Spotify.

The car seemed to have a newer version of the software than what's shown in press photos of the Prius v, and my own phone is running iOS 10.

My question is - what setup would I need to do to get audio playback working through USB, once I get the car? I used to drive for rental companies which had Gen 3 2012-2015 Prius liftbacks with the Two trim, and USB worked fine through those, but I don't think they actually had Entune.

Thanks so much! Looking forward to joining the family soon!

No reason to run the BT radio when a cable is needed to charge and run power-hungry GPS radio.

The big reason why I would use USB is for charging, which it did even when it didn't detect it as an audio source, thankfully. However, I really like having the album artwork on the screen as opposed to the generic music note graphic.

Drove for a rental agency with lots of 2015-era Entune systems (and a few Gen 3 Prius liftbacks), I would always get album artwork when running through USB, so I suspected it would work. Perhaps I'll take another local one for a drive here in a few weeks to see if it was that particular vehicle having an issue, I'm not sure I would purchase the one I drove the other day anyway.

I have a similar issue with my new (to me) 2013 Prius v...

In all the recent Toyotas (carshare and rental Corollas and Prius Cs) I've driven, when you plug in an iPhone with USB, it shows up as 'iPhone' in the audio sources, and even if you aren't playing music, the iPhone audio goes through the car speaker.

But on the Prius v it doesn't :( Instead it shows up as 'iPod' and the only thing it does is play music. When you aren't playing music there is no audio output. So you can use it for navigation over USB... but only if you are playing music.

As someone else mentioned Bluetooth works. But it's more complicated to set up especially when multiple people with different phones are using the car at different times.

So ... a lot of questions:

    1. Does anyone know if there is some configuration setting on the iPhone or the Prius that I'm missing here?
    2. Or if it is possible to upgrade the audio system (I already got the latest version from Toyota's website) so that it will recognize the iPhone?
    3. And which model years will actually recognize an iPhone as an iPhone?
    Thanks!

According to Toyota's own compatibility list, it should work out of the box, search for "EntunePhoneCompatibilityList.pdf" and look for the one revised in January of this year.

Found some possible leads on my own issue. An Apple support thread had a Jeep Grand Cherokee as the car being plugged into. The problem seems to stem from the fact that I exclusively use Spotify for my music, that user was able to successfully get their car to recognize it by syncing one song into the Music app on iOS. I'm picking up my own car next week, I will try that then.

Just an update on this - putting one song in my Music app on my iPhone did the trick.

I get album artwork when connecting over USB now, no problem! However, when I listen through Spotify and I get a bluetooth call, when the call hangs up it switches to the single track in my Music app instead of going back to the song that was playing through Spotify.

When I'm listening over Bluetooth audio, there are no problems aside from not having the album artwork, and it should be noted that you can be listening over Bluetooth audio while connected through USB at the same time, so you can still charge even when using Bluetooth.
