I've noticed several people post over time interested in OEM mud guards / splash guards for the gen 4 Prius.

I've seen them for sale on eBay from time to time (US site) in the $180 range. This seemed a little steep to me. I found a place in the UK that will apparently ship to the USA. Price shipped to me, assuming I can get them, $104 USD shipped, or roughly 74 GBP for the set of 4.

Possible my order will get declined, but for now, the site shows shipping to the USA as an option, so I gave it a whirl. I'll keep the forum posted if I actually get them, at which time I'll provide details in case anyone else is interested in a set.

I can (barely) justify $104...$180 was beyond what they were worth to me.

Anyway, if you're interested, keep your eye on this thread and I'll update when I get more info / the item.

Oh - I never fly - why did you identify yourself as an airport - could be good idea to put USA in there - as we're in at least 20 different countries

I would think this would kill some of the aerodynamics that are so carefully engineered into the Gen 4 shape.

I have mud flaps (mud guards) fitted all round on my car as part of the UK Protection Pack and they really set the car off and offer a decent amount of protection too.

As they were fitted from new I don't have any before/after comparisons to make, but there is certainly nothing wrong with the fuel figures I am getting (y)

I might lose 1/10th of a mile per gallon, no doubt. However, my in-laws live on a farm in rural Kansas. You have to drive down a couple miles of gravel road to get to their place. After 15 years of driving out there from time to time with different vehicles, I've found that the splash guards are invaluable in minimizing damage to the painted rocker panels. Exposed rockers, eventually you end up with kind of a sandblasting effect to the rear lower aspect of the wheel arch and forward rocker panel.

Key is to apply a little bit of helicopter tape or similar in the area where the splash guards contact paint prior to installation. Keeps any grit that gets behind the guards from scouring the painted surface.

Anyway, I'll update the thread if my order goes through and I receive the parts. The only reason I posted originally was that it seemed like there were a decent number of threads in the past where people expressed interest but the threads petered out with no resolution due to lack of part availability, at least in the U.S.

^ This, @syncro87. Clever locations get my fur up...

Mudflaps? Surplus to requirements, unless you want increased drag, and the poultice of grit and salt that inevitably accumulates in behind them.

Sorry, in Curmudgeon Mode this morning.

Sounds like a case of either too much caffeine, or perhaps too little. No worries, easily remedied either way. :)

Neither issue a significant concern in my experience.

Harters, thank you for taking the time to post those pics. Hopefully my order actually arrives from across the pond, and I don't get the dreaded "we don't ship to your location, order canceled" email.

No worries. I work night shift. I'm often grumpy due to inconsistent sleep, and later I reflect on how I could have been less prickly in various situations.

Anyway, in case anyone is interested in this thread, I received confirmation from the vendor in the UK that they are shipping my items. It looks like I may actually get the parts. Will update if/when this happens.

I know from personal experience that there are at least two different configurations for the guards. I ripped one off on a curb and when I ordered a replacement, it didn't match. So I ended up replacing all four. I have not found ANY issues with mud or grime collecting behind the mud guards in two plus years of service. (fortunate to be in Southern California).

We just had a rear bumper repair (3rd gen), and not sure if it's the same part number, but the body shop missed a couple of fasteners, so I chased them down, and they appear to be the ones that mud flap screws would screw into. FWIW, the part number is:

    90189-A0008

The have a round top, open in the middle, and square shank, and a couple of tangs at two opposing corner of the shank. They push into square holes in the body.
