so i thought i had a 6 month trial of XM in my prime. turns out it's 3 months. well i have the prime on an all access package currently but i cant tune to higher than 235. i thought this was a trial limit but it's not. 2 of my favorite channels are utopia (341) and ONEderland (303) i can tune them in my tacoma (added on siriusXM to aftermarket head unit.) i also have online access and can hear them on it. i dont believe it's a subscription issue as i've sent multiple activation signals. i came across this: Why can't my Sirius radio receive the All Access package? and I can tune and hear those channels also noticed the little logo on the 11.6 screen (advanced model) says "XM" not "siriusXM" im hoping thats because they merged but am skeptical that despite advertising "sirius XM", that's it's an older "XM" radio. i may just end up canceling my subscription and just use the online app on my smartphone through bluetooth.
It is why I dropped satellite radio. Their customer support provides no support except to pay the bill. Programming is insulated and isolated from anything I want to hear. Bob Wilson
any updates on this? is it a limit of the prime's radio or is there a subscription/trial mix up somehow?
I have to say the only reason I use Sirus/XM is the real time traffic data which displays quite nicely on the Niro's map display. It's become quite invaluable, so much so when my 3 month subscription ran out, I did some digging and only subscribed to the traffic data, .$65 for the upcoming year! In L.A., it actually works well, as long as you somewhat pay attention to it! All the other crap... don't need it, my Ipod has over 6,400 songs on it..... nice!!
I have the 3 month free trial and the highest channel is 223. I have no intention of renewing the sub when it's over as I have my own portable Sirius radio with a lifetime sub and free online access with the app. I will connect the magnetic antenna to the roof and snake the cable through the top of the hatch door.
Indeed, siriusXM, Sirius, and XM are three different packages, radios, and technologies under the siriusXM brand. The Prius is an XM radio that can only use the XM packages from siriusXM. Almost all of the channels are identical between the three, but there are some differences.
Sirius and XM used to be two distinct companies, each using their own satellites and radio technologies. Then they merged into one company. But the XM radios can only work with the XM system, and Sirius radios can only work with the Sirius system. I guess they are now building radios than can talk with either system, but apparently the one in our Prime can only use the XM system. By the way, when you press the SOS button on an Advanced or the Safety Connect system calls in in response to an emergency (like an airbag deployment) the operator who answers works for a SiriusXM subsidiary. Absolutely nothing to do with satellite radio.
I know this is an old post, but I was going to ask the same thing. I just purchased a 2020 Prius Limited. It has the SXM logo, not the XM logo on the front. The SiriusXM website says it is a SiriusXM radio, where it showed my 2016 was an XM radio....yet I still don't have any channels above 235. If it is really a SiriusXM radio, I should be receiving channels above 235. I haven't been able to get any answers so far.
