We need a way to bump up the torque limit applied when turning. Kind link when it parallel parks. But pretty cool

it says in the video description that the car was hacked with openpilot.
"Hacked with open-source software and hardware (Comma AI OpenPilot, Comma AI Panda, Comma AI Giraffe) to be able to steer itself and operate the gas and brake autonomously, requiring a set speed input by the user using the cars Adaptive Cruise Control System. The software uses the car’s built in radar and sensors to control factors such as following distance, speed if cars around are going slower than the set-point, steering intensity, etc.. The result is a car that will allow you to sit back and enjoy the view (while still being 100% attentive to the road) while getting to your destination."

still i would like to see what's involved with installing this and if involved in a crash where the liabilities are. wonder if this voids warranties.

    website for those intrested: comma.ai

I personally enjoy driving a car, I don't want or need a computer to do that for me...

    Just saying.

Looks like it's just connecting the 3 parts, downloading the software on the phone over your home's wifi, disconnecting the dongle of the front camera and attaching it to the phone's. Then mounting up the phone under the mirror or in replacement of the mirror.

Looks like you also have to get behind the.. (what's that compartment that you keep your registration and stuff in) and unplug one thing.

I just ordered this stuff today. (Girraffe, panda, and the EON phone dashcam thing)

Hell...I'd settle for that when the car is control by a person.

I have been looking at the Comma.ai OpenPilot of the Rav 4 installation video and have a few questions about the prime install. What kind of instructions do you receive with the equipment? Is the ECU behind the glove box? Does the Prius fingerprint work in the Prius Prime advanced or do need to add a fork? How do you change the steering torque? Thank You

I'll post an install video/write up in a couple days when I get mine. It shipped today and is 'first class mail' so however long that takes to get here.

The prius doesn't have the fingerprint thing. that's a RAV4 thing only.

The hardest part of the installation is probably getting behind the glovebox to unplug a cord.(refer to cabin filter change out videos for how to get there) and then taking the plastic cover around the rear view mirror off. The rest is just plug the giraffe into the panda into the eon and use the goPro mounts to stick it to the windshield.

Also you can't change the program and it's control over your car unless you know how to program stuff. The software is opensource so you can mess with it if you know what you're doing. One of the updates the maker did was increase steering wheel torque by 6%.
So as a general rule, if you don't know, don't mess with it. lol We just have to hope they continue to get data and with that, be able to increase the control of the program.

Thank you for your reply. I am looking forward to your installation video. All I intend to do is install and use. I'll leave the programming to the experts. I have changed the cabin filter in a gen 2 and two gen 3 prii so no problem there. Go Pens, Pirates and Steelers.

My profile needs updating. I have a year old Blue Magnetism, Prius Prime Advanced with 20,000 miles on it.

A fingerprint is required for all vehicles, thats why its called a fingerprint.. its unique to the vehicle. Don't worry about it though. For the Prius Prime, it's essentially plug and play. There's a wiki and a slack channel that are very active and helpful. Unplugging the DSU is not required. Leaving it plugged in will allow you to use the factory radar adjustments. I have not unplugged mine yet, but will do so shortly.

Think of this level of self driving more like super cruise control. You have to pay attention at all times and it's not perfect, but for those highway drives, its pretty awesome and will only get better over time.

Good luck fellas! If you have any questions, please ask or ask in the slack channel.

What settings did you use on the four little toggle switches?
I plugged mine in and every single sensor is tweaking out

Ok so setting this up is a bit of a headache. For anyone interested here's the wiki for setting it up.
